I was at clinical today and while I was waiting for my preceptor to finish a phone call I observed the activity at the nursing station. The charge nurse was being pulled in a bunch of different directions and she literally had 5 or 6 different things going on. At that moment, a creepy doctor came up to the nurses' station ranting about a patient for whom he had ordered an IV and it was not started yet. The charge nurse stated that this was odd as she had spoken to the IV team and she was sure they had went to the room to start it. That's when Dr. Jerk said "If they told you your paycheck was in the mail, I bet you wouldn't take their word for it." :angryfire Before she could respond to that, the primary nurse walked by and said they started the IV 20 minutes ago, we're just waiting on the fluids from the pharmacy.
She looked at him quietly and calmly and without gloating or indignating stated "You owe me an apology." And he apologized profusely, as he should have. I was so proud of the charge nurse for sticking up for herself while maintaining her professional demeanor. She made my day!

WOW!!! Thats awesome.
It's rare that you will see a doctor's demeanor handled in this way (I've witnessed my fair share of screamfests). and I'm very surprised the doctor actually apologized!!!
I hope you told her what a great job she did and how much you respected her for it.
