This forum is scaring me!

Next year I'll be starting my prereq classes to become a nurse... But this forum is scarring me! :uhoh3:

Reading all the posts about the stress, the overwork, the nasty patients, and the difficulties of nursing school has got me thinking. Should I purse nursing? What if I regret my decision?

I have been accepted to a university where I could get a typical four year degree, for a typical office job. Or I could go to my local community college, finish my prereqs and start nursing school.

What questions should I be asking myself to make a decision? As individuals who went through nursing school and nursing, what advice can you give me?

Wow, Hearticulture, I couldn't have said it better. I came to nursing as a second career and it changed me as a person in all of the best possible ways. I can't agree more with everything that this poster stated. It woke me up, made me able to handle extremely stressful situations and emergencies with more calm than most of my coworkers. I found my personal strengths through nursing. Very well put. Thanks for stating what makes me "stoked" every day I go to work. :yeah:

(Hehe.. at least my spelling error kind of makes sense...)

Thank you for all of your reply's! It means a lot to me that each of you took time to share your thoughts.

I have made the decision to become a nurse. It will certainly be tough, and I may ask myself what I have gotten myself in to, but I believe nursing is right for me. Along with scaring (or scarring :D) me, this forum has given me a glimpse of what to expect, and has allowed me to make a more informed decision.

The good thing is that, at the age of 17, you have plenty of time to regroup and pursue other options if it proves a bad decision. Many of us no longer have such luxuries.

Choose wisely.
