Thinking about transferring if I dont make it here

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey all. I go to Lehman College in the Bronx, NY. I'm a lower sophomore pre-nursing student trying to get into a competitive nursing program with many competitive students. I will admit, Im doing pretty well in college and I have many boost for example networking and a current hands-on internship that puts me above many of the other pre-nursing students. However, I do feel that I will not make it into the actual nursing program because honestly, if it were up to me, nearly all the students would make it because they all seem to be doing very well and all seem to really want to be in the program. The program is very limited (so they say and so I believe so as well) and I really do want this. I'm also accelerate and at this rate I will finish my bachelor's in 4 years but only if I get into the program. If I dont get in there is a very long waiting list. Ive taken precautions by taking extra classes so that if I transfer to another school, I will not be loaded down by electives and prerequisites.

Do you guys think if I dont get in I should wait another year or transfer immediately (keeping in mind that I want to be done in four years)?

If so, which school (private mostly likely) do you think I should attend?

Thanks guys, I'll really appreciate everyones input on this matter. Any questions dont hesitate to ask :).

Unfortunately, Lehman does not care about any of that. They only focus on your grades and your HESI test score which makes it even harder to get in. And you're right about space being very limited, I think there are under 100 spots.

How about applying to SUNY schools as well? Great nursing programs but still cheaper than private school.

If you really want to look into transferring to private schools: Pace, NYU and The College of New Rochelle are a few schools that I heard a lot of Lehman students sent applications into/were thinking about transferring to.

Graduating in five years isn't too bad. However, there's no gurantee that you'll get in the next year too. I suggest applying to schools that aren't Lehman so if you don't get into Lehman, you'll hopefully have one of those schools to fall back on and you'll be able to graduate in 4 years like you wanted.
