Thinking it's time to get my RN

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hello all. According to my post counter, I haven't posted since Oct. 2007. I am glad to come back to this site, which was so helpful while I was in LVN school. Having worked the last 3 years as an LVN, I am seeing the limitations of the license. After a lot of searching I think the Univ. of Phoneix LVN to BSN program will best suit my needs. Anyone else planning to go the RN route via a LVN to BSN?

I agree it depends on where you live. I'm in Jersey & LPN's limited respect. When you say your a nurse the typical reply is "Your an RN" and you say "No, I'm an LPN" and then there's the. "Oh"..that usually follows. :angryfire Quite honestly the only reason I'm in school for LPN is to transition into RN eventually. It's sad because LPN's & CNA'S work there fingers to the bone too, its just not as recognized. I got such crap from my fam when I said I was going for LPN & not RN but this is the schedule (& the price) that works for me right now. I'll get there & whatever you decide you will too!!

I am definitely going on to get my RN. I agree with others, being an LPN is very limiting, and it seems like there are more opportunities in being an RN. I was going to got the LPN to BSN route but I think I am going to get my ADN first because it takes less time to complete. I also heard that there is not much difference in being an RN with an ADN versus one with a BSN (with a BSN you can move onto mangagement).

I just finished LPN school and became licensed Jan09. I plan on starting the LPN-RN bridge over course at a regular community college. I looked at alternative routes but I think going the traditional route is best for my situation. Good luck to you!
