Thinking of switching FNP Programs

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

I am currently through my first semester of FNP school and am getting ready to begin my second. The school that I attend is wonderful and everyone has been very supportive and helpful and has a desire to help students succeed. The problem that I am concerned about is that as I progress through the program more of it will be in class learning than online. I am a great online learner and it allows more time to be at home with my family even if I am extremely busy while I am there. The school is about 1 hour and 30 minutes from my home so it is not really conviently located for me. Can anyone out there suggest any online programs that will be willing to accept transfer students?

I am particularly interested in Texas Tech, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, The University of Alabama, and Graceland University. Does anyone have an experience with these schools? I don't mind traveling a few times throughout the program. Any advice anyone has is greatly appreciated!

Hi isha!

Have you looked into Vanderbilt? I'm not in the FNP (doing the ANP/GNP route) so I can't speak to that aspect, but they do a mixed online and distance-learning format for most of their specialties. My ANP/GNP program is a little over 11 mos long, and for basically one long weekend a month I have to be on campus (amounted to 4x in the fall, 3x in spring and 3x in summer); the rest of the classes are streamed online and exams are all on Blackboard. Clinicals are done in your home area w/a preceptor of your choosing (usually! they have to approve the preceptor, obviously). I know several people in my program split the cost of hotel rooms during the block sessions, and other use some sort of on-campus "housing" during their stay (basically a dorm room at a discounted price). If you have any questions, feel free to message me or e-mail me at [email protected]. Good luck!

Texas Tech was very organized as far as when I attended for my RN-BSN. I wouldn't mind going there for my NP but it's too far from me. Try UT, I heard it's an excellent school also.
