Think my chances are any good?

Hi,

I have always wanted to be a CRNA but am totally scared to even start applying because everyone makes it sound like you need a 4.0 GPA and years of CVICU experience.

A little about me-

I was an anesthesia tech for 4 years before nursing school at a large level one teaching hospital (not that tech experience really matters-but maybe its worth a shot to show that I really want it?)

BSN GPA 3.2 (kinda low, I know)

Experience includes working PACU at the level one large teaching hospital where we have about 75 ORs and get ICU patients that often are "boarders" and we get gtts, vents, all the "ICU stuff". Worked there full time for a year and a half. Still work PRN there.

Then I have been doing travel nursing and have worked 2 ICU contracts, LTACH (which is long term vent patients and often on gtts-but at this point its not ETT tubes, its trachs), 2 stepdown contracts which I have been floated to ICU.

Total experience as a nurse is a little over 3 years now, all critical care experience. Was fortunate to start in PACU vs med surg floor.

Currently studying for CCRN and will have that before I apply. Haven't taken GRE and I suck at those tests so was trying to avoid schools that required it. Also haven't taken the advanced chemistries such as organic chem as I have been doing travel nursing and haven't enrolled back in school, but was really hoping to not have to take these (I have found several schools that do not require them).

So just curious-think I am in a position to even apply or do you guys think it will be just a waste of time and money?

Thanks for any advice!

If its your passion, then apply. I've had friends get an interview with schools (with only 1 year of being and RN at time of interview) and get in. Only certs they had were ACLS. It depends a LOT on the school your applying for and unfortunately, a LOT on you as a person. Yes they do judge you on how smart or accredited you are, but you never know what weighs more per school. So, I say go for it.
