There are jobs for new grads

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Like many of you I have read over these posts and got that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach when I read there were no jobs for new grads to be found.

I have gotten 5 job interviews and have gone on 3 so far. No job yet but the jobs are out there. Check out indeed.com and apply apply apply. I have applied in 4 different states and feel that is why I am getting responses. I always follow up with a phone call or e-mail. Dont give up there is hope and I think that things are starting to turn around a bit.

Wish me luck I have two interviews to go and lots of applications still out :D

You are both right. The fact is, there are more nurses without jobs right now because of funding cuts. So it's almost like finding a needle in a haystack. or winning the lotto, in some cases. However, even if you had to send out a hundred apps, you got a job eventually. Persistence is the key. And knowing how to sell yourself.

I cannot tell you how many resumes we would toss out when I used to screen apps in the hotel business. If your cover letter is too generic, if the resume exceeds two pages, or if there are spelling errors, chances are, your resume is one of the first to go.

Also, if you show up to the interview unprepared, you may be qualified, but you won't be hired. Spend the time actually preparing your answers before hand. Go to the HR department in person of a few of your local hospitals, if you can. And, for those people who are saying, "I can't find anything where I live", then, as difficult a decision as it might be, consider relocating.

Fortunately, the market has pretty much hit rock bottom already, and it is slowly improving. The fact is, they can only delay hiring nurses for a short period of time. People are getting older and sicker, and nurses are retiring, so it is only a matter of time before things return to normal. Hang in there. This situation is similar to the early 90's, and eventually, everyone was crying for nurses.

Good luck. :)

Yes indeed persistence does pay off. I got a job!!!!!!! They wanted someone with experience but were willing to train a new graduate.

Not in the state I currently live in but hey that is ok with me!!:yeah::nurse::w00t::dncgbby:

So very excited!!!

Good luck to all. We can accomplish whatever we set our minds to.

I am SO HAPPY for you :) I have only been looking for 2 weeks, but already that feels like a lifetime, so I can imagine what some of you have been going through looking for months. Congratulations!

Again, while it is slow for new grads (and experienced nurses alike), there ARE jobs. What about forensic or prison nursing? I saw a posting today in my province for this, and they will take a new grad. Partly because many people do not want to work in the correctional system.
