The powers that be

Nurses General Nursing

I am curious to know if the powers that be that make the laws/policies that have taken time from caring for the patient and think it should be more spent on paperwork ie..lengthy incident reports, have ever actually performed the job or if they merely set the rules. Also, in my 20 years of working in various settings, I have seen the staffing to care for those who need us, pretty much cut in half. This can be very frustrating to have people need you and literally we can not be everywhere at once. I realize it has alot to do with money, but this bothers me.

welcome to nursing.........unfortunately. we'll just work harder, faster to get the job done. that's a nurses basic personality and it is so very exploited, and we let it. i personally love the new rule about restraints....and the act of god that is required to get them ordered. i agree it's much better to not tie a confused person in bed and give them opportunity to pull their iv's out and fall oob. it's far more comfortable and dignified to have to sit at the nurses station in the hall for all to see for hours and hours and hours???? sometimes the powers that be just have tooooo much time on their hands. :uhoh3:

The majority of the rules are made up as knee jerk reactions to problems. Instead of investigating and finding the root cause of a problem they make a rule meant to be a bandaid.

Greed is the main factor for the downhill slide of healthcare and the ridiculous problems we have that could have been averted many years ago if the lust for money hadn't been involved.
