The NLN is impossible, right?

I finally got a hold of my NLN RN Pre-Entrance exam and decided to do some practice problems, because I'm taking the NLN on March 16th. I was doing one of the practice exams when I realized that the time allotted to the section is only 45 minutes when there are 60 problems; which means you pretty much have less than a minute to answer each question. And then matters get worse when they decided to add in 5 reading passages, which takes up even more time. I don't know about you, but I'm no Howard Stephen Berg. Also, all the NLN exams near me are only allowing paper and pencil versions of the test, so I will be losing more of my time to bubble in my answers. I doubt this exam is like the SAT, where my score will remain the same if I don't answer, but rather I will lose points if I run out of time.

Someone, please tell me, How is this possible?! I feel like I'm at a great disadvantage right now, especially since the verbal/writing sections of any test has always been my greatest falling out.

Oh, the actual test is even worse. There's 80 vocab/reading and 80 Science, plus 50 math. I think you get an hour per section.

Anyway, despite that, it's not impossible. Many people earn excellent scores and you can, too. The guide has some tips to improve your reading speed.

Good Luck !

No it is not impossible. There is another link on here called "Has anyone taken the NLN?" I took mine in January. I found the book to be much harder than the actual test. the english vocab is either you know it or you don't . I would suggest doing the test in the book and time yourself. Do not write inthe book, do it on paper to account for the bubble drag. Also if you get somethign wrong find out why, research the answer, use googlel, many of those questions or similar are on the test. Math is a lot of fractions and a lot a lot a lot of percents, know how to figure that. There are a lot of random physics questions, skim through Physics for dummies, know circuits, ohms and Newtons. Do not physc yourself out and do not listen to the negative. I got a 97 on mine and only had 1 1/2 week over xmas to prepare. If you can do the practice test in the book you can do it.

I had 20 minutes time left on the english bit to go back. I ran out of time on the math as I finished my last question. The scince I thought I did horrible but was my best score.

They do not count all the questions and you do not get penalized for guessing, running out of time just guess.

I'm at a huge loss here especially because my school never offered a physics course, so I'm in my senior with no idea about physics. My real concern is just with physics in the science section and the overall reading/writing/verbal section. I'm well with math, but I don't know much about multiplying decimals, because in high school they often throw things to the calculators. :(

Well you have over 3 weeks to prepare. We never took physics either. Just thumb through the For Dummies book and look at the section in the McDonal prepe book and you should be fine. They do not count all the questions either.

Learn the roots of the words (again this is covered in the McDonald prep book.

Don't physc yourself out, just prepeare.

Just reread my last post.............a miracle I passed the English part!! LOL I rely too much on spell check.

Well today was your day, how did it go??????
