to all the professionals....I am doing my extensive research to become a CRNA. I have had major changes in my degrees due to family, etc. Now I am committed and ready to return to school and start my nursing career.
I plan on taking the accelerated nursing program next year to obtain my BSN. My final goal would be to become a CRNA or DNAP depending on where my family takes me.
But for the sake of CRNA, a few questions ponder.
1) What kind of schedule are you encountered with? as a CRNA that works in the hospital or outside.
2) After obtaining your BSN, where would be the best job search for experience to the next step......going to school for CRNA?
3) I live in Michigan and the city has well respected hospitals........whil I was searching around local hospitals in my area and there were no postings of any nurse anethetist job openings.....should I be concerned? or are all CRNA's "self managed""self employed"?
4) I would love info on anything and everything about malpractice insurance, how it works, where does that put you financially as a CRNA?
Thank you for all your time and help.

Hello Lisa- Good luck with school and your BSN. That's definitely your first step. The next step would be to get at least 1 year of critical care experience. IT seems most CRNA schools perfer high-acuity adult SICU. There are always exceptions to that rule. Some accept ER, PACU, and PICU. Check with the CRNA schools you might be interested in and see what they reccomend. Then decide what you are interested in doing. What type of critical care you are interested in.
1) CRNA's have all sorts of schedule and it depends on the place you work. There are 3 12's, 4 10's, 5 8's. Some positions require call, others do not.
3) As for job postings..don't give up hope. A lot of CRNA's are not employed by hospitals, but by groups that contract with the hospital. There are several websites you can search that post many available jobs.
4) If you are lucky, most places will cover malpractice. At least that is true where I live in South FLorida.
Good luck on your path.
