The Job Market for Nurses.

Hi everyone. I realize this thread may seem a bit redundant, I know there are many postings on here about this same subject. I live in New Jersey, and posted about this same topic in the New Jersey forum and got no responses.

I just wanted to know if it really is as dismal as some nurses make it sound on this forum. I'm still a nursing student, I have a long time to go. In my area, it's pretty much already a given that getting hired as an ADN is a thing of the past. I am currently in an ADN program because for me, it's cheaper to get licensed and then immediately enter an RN-BSN program, as opposed to going straight through for 4 years.

I've heard negative things said about the job market for a while now, but it's so frequent right now that it's a little scary to me. I will be graduating with some debt, and I don't expect to land my dream job fresh out of school, but I would like to be able to find something. In NJ almost all 4 year programs are extremely competitive and wait listed, which makes me fear that the job market will be totally saturated.

Has anyone heard of an ADN nurse being hired on the grounds that she's actively pursuing a BSN? Is it really that ugly out there? Any tips from any new grads who have landed positions are more than welcomed. Thank you!

Much to my own surprise, today, my posts have received several replies that claim that there really isn't a problem at all with nurses finding employment. Reminds me of C+C Music Factory's: "Things That Make You go Hmm".
