I'm having the most stressful and depressing time finding a job. I feel like i'm the only one in my class having difficulty with this part. I've been offered a job and recently had it retracted because the facility found it cheaper to hire many GPNs than GNs. I don't have any experience in medicine outside of my clinicals for school. I do my best to come across as professional and compassionate in my interviews. I read up on the facility before I go. Yet i have nothing. I'll list my qualities and someone please tell me what i can do to make myself appeal to these people. I'm graduating in may, I have no medical experience but i've worked for the same company for the last 3 years where i've been reliable and gained more and more responsibility. My boss is glad i'm graduating and happy to be a reference for me. I'm the only african american graduating from my program and i'm pretty sure the other program here only has 1 as well. i hate to be the one to play this card but there aren't many african american nurses in this area and the ones i've seen over my years in school have always been the same, no new ones. There are girls in my program without job experience just like me and they've been offered positions. what do i do? please help i'm getting so discouraged.

Hey don't worry I understand, its very easy to get discouraged during this time. And trust me, I know where you're coming from. Luckily for you, you still have plenty of time since you're still awaiting graduation because there are many people who do not have jobs who have applying longer than you have. I definitely recommend, networking with other nurses, applying to as many positions as you can, you can search through allnurses to find special tips about finding a job. Definitely apply to small hospitals too and apply in person and see if you meet or speak with the managers. But really apply everywhere, not everybody gets a job at the same time. It all requires patience, don't worry about what others are saying. You will get a job, just keep trying. And follow up!
Thank you, I have read the posts from people that have been waiting longer than me and it's scaring me. I've seen too many posts where the people have a BSN and they've been applying for a year. I'm terrified that if I get nothing now I'll be just like them, or worse because i'll only have a 2 year degree!! I plan to go on and get a 4 year degree, when I get an interview I make sure I say that weather they ask or not! I appreciate your words of encouragement though. Thank you so much.
