The Career Debacle

So here's a brief history/requisition of advice.

About 10 years ago I was an EMT-B in MD. I also worked in a trauma unit as a trauma tech. I left and did private ambulance for a while. After that, I found a new love: Invasive Cardiology. I became a clinical tech and worked in some of the top heart centers on the East Coast. I moved to NY about 5 years ago. However now- I'm unemployed due to an injury. Long story short- I feel that my time as a technologist has come to an end- and it is time to pursue a new phase in my medical career.

I have decided to take a refresher on my EMT cert, and go to nursing school. Living in NYC gives me the option of certifying as a nurse tech (cakewalk- well at least the phlebotomy/EKG part considering my hx in a trauma unit and the fact that I am an ACLS instructor).

The question is- will nurse tech or CNA do anything more to prepare me for nursing than the experience I have already gained via OJT?

(My underlying goals for this path is to make some sustenance money and get re-acclamated to pt. care before going full blaze into a nursing program)

My passion lies in pt care- I just feel it's time for a career move- am I headed in the right direction?

I can't stress enough that all advice is welcome.

It certainly won't hurt, and if you need a job, it will get you used to some hands on care. It might give you a heads up on the first few nursing clinicals which are basically just basic care anyway. Also, might give you some confidence.

But it probably isn't going to give you any new knowledge or skills that you already don't have.
