I just got back from visiting my cousin (sidenote: their son had a bday-cutest little curls) and while talking I found out my cousin had failed the program due to one class. Apparently the program (who in past years had excellent numbers and amazing percentage pass the nclex on the first try) decided to change the way the ATI is included in the grading. and the ATI is causing several students from each site to fail out of the program.
I did not go through this program but I know what the ATI is and I think it is ridiculous to think that that its causing them to fail out.
I am wondering if there is anyone out there that also got dismiss from this program? will you appeal the grade? sounds like they did not prepare the students for the ATI very well

Hmm - depends on how 'several' is defined. Without additional data, it is impossible to draw a conclusion about the 'fairness' or sequelae of the change. How many students failed before they began using ATI? Is it better to 'fail' early in the program and seek remediation or get completely through it only to fail NCLEX? I think that the school is placing more value on the first option.
One of the most frequent themes on AN is the nursing student who "missed it by that much".... only 0.5 points below passing score, only one class failed, only missed one clinical day, passed all my classes but couldn't pass the exit exam, etc. Of course this always feels grossly unfair to the individual in question. But what about the other students? The ones who DID manage to jump through all the hoops. Would it be fair to them to make exceptions?
BTW - I'm currently envious of any one with routine access to cute & cuddly toddlers of the grandchild variety, especially the curly hair types.
