St. Phillips LVN Program - San Antonio, Texas

U.S.A. Texas

Updated:   Published

Has anyone taken or heard about anyone taking any nursing program at St. Phillips College (

Alamo Community College) in San Antonio, Texas? How was it?

Specializes in OB/Gyn, L&D, NICU.

Excelsior is a fully accredited nursing program that is almost completely online. They work through other universities - a co-educational college - to provide distance learning for many different degree programs. The publish their own manuals, approved by the state, for each nursing course. To go from LVN to RN, you take 7 courses and complete each one with an online exam. You then have 3 clinicals: one is online, one is at an accredited testing center, and the last is at an actual medical school hospital over a weekend. They also offer an RN to BSN program.

Okayyy well this sounds like something I'm interested in. I have pre-reqs done, how can I pick up my application?

Just go down there. It is very easy to find. Take I35 to Walters and go South on Walters. You will see St. Phillip's on the right about 4-5 miles (??) down. Once you park and go up the main stairs, the nursing/medical profession area is one of the buildings on the left and has a big sign up above. Can't miss it.

seems like you know a lot about the program at st. philips. would you happen to know which instructor is best to take for anatomy 1? I have heard the a&P classes are super hard!

I got into the program! I started this past August. You have to pick up an application at the school. I think that most qualified applicants get in. I like the program so far. I just finished my first semester with a 3.2 GPA. It's a little harder than expected, not necessarily because it was hard, but because you are taking 18 hours your first semester (if you haven't taken any courses like growth and development or anatomy) and it's a lot.

what are the standardpre reqs and what did u get in them?

What GPA did everyone have when they got accepted? I'm really nervous if I'll get accepted or not!
