Collin College Spring 2013 applicants

U.S.A. Texas

I recently applied to the nursing program for Spring 2013 but have not been a student at Collin College. I have heard numerous things about how you get accepted, the importance of the PSB score, whether or not you have a degree, etc. Anybody out there in the same boat as me? Wondering what's true and what isn't? I was also told we should get letters in the mail some time around September 11 either being accepted or rejected. True?

Any knowledge on this would be great!

So far I have not stressed about the acceptance letter. I almost have myself convinced I won't get in because I have 14 overall points. I have a 4.0 in all my prereqs (4.0 at Collin overall and 3.7 at all colleges combined - no degree though) but only made 5 on the PSB. Reading and math have always been my best subjects in school but they were my lowest points on the PSB. I panicked when they said 15 minutes for the reading and I completely lost my concentration. Hopefully, it will not mess up my chances too much.

How often are we allowed to take the PSB? If I do not get in the Spring 2013 program I will reapply in the fall. I am taking Micro now so by the end of this semester I will have 15 points. Should I retake the PSB to bring the reading part up or will that even matter with 15 points?

You can only take the PSB once per year. If you don't get in this time around, you will have a better shot when you get that 15th point from your last prereq. You probably won't need to take it again. Good Luck to you guys!

Purplebubble10, I think September 11 is the sixth week mark from the application deadline. Any guesses on when we should be getting letters?

I have no idea, it usually is about 6 weeks but can be a bit longer. With all the changes with the new director, things might be running slow. I would give it a week and then you could call and ask when they would be sent out. Some others in my class did that and they told them when they were going out.

Thanks for the info, purplebubble10. I heard you could only take the PSB once per year but is that per calendar year or one year from the last time you take it? My guess is one year from the last test.

I know there are a lot of people submitting applications in the fall so there will be more competition getting accepted. That's why I was wondering when I can take the test again. Hopefully, I'll get in this spring so I won't have to worry about it.

My concern is...I don't want the 5 years time limit to run out on my science and math courses. I took them in the early 90's and again in so this is my second go around. I do not want to take them a 3rd time! I took Biology in Spring of 2010 so I have a little time.

Raviendha, I feel exactly the same way about my Science classes. The thought of retaking A&P I or II makes me cringe:) Let's just hope we get our acceptance letters in the next couple of weeks and then we won't have to worry about it!

Raviendha, You are correct it is one calendar year from the last time you took the PSB. So if you took it in May of this year you will not be able to retake it until May of 2013. Good luck! :)

Just checking in to see if anyone has gotten anything in the mail yet...

Okay everyone! I called the Collin College Nursing Department and asked when letters would more than likely be mailed out.... I was told the Admissions Committee is meeting on September 17 to make final decisions and by the end of the month letters will be mailed out. I was hoping I would hear an earlier timeframe than that, but was mistaken! At least we have a better idea now!

Nooo! I was really holding on to the 15th! Darn, longer to wait I suppose!

I was hoping to find out before my mandatory Nurses' Day at Baylor on the 29th of September, but I may not. Shoot!

Tomorrow is only the 10th of September.. Hurry up letters!!!

This is what I received via email today:

Hi Britney,

The letters will be mailed after the Student Affairs Committee meets September 21, 2012. You should have it the first week of October, (hopefully). Lots of changes here and everything is behind, it seems.

Are we ever going to get them???
