Texas Children's July 2017 GN residency

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hello everyone! I didn't see a topic started for TCH's nurse residency program so I thought that I would start one. I know that the application just closed yesterday, but feel free to comment any updates that y'all get! Good luck to everyone!

Also, will we interview for one or both of our units? Sorry this is the first of 23745063405 questions

@Amariexp0 my GPA is a 3.6

But yes I'm also so excited!! From the email it sounds like only one unit because it kept just saying "interview" not "interviews". Also kind of scary that they are only accepting in 3 units, I feel like this makes it way more competitive. Do you think the shadowing is immediately following the open house or that you schedule it for another time? I go to school out of state, so I'm trying to figure out what to do haha

I'm wondering the same thing about the shadowing! Because I'm not sure what to wear now, you know? Hopefully we will get more information before Friday!

If you are still looking for NP opportunities please let me know. I am currently looking for a NP within the Central Texas Area. We are about an hour drive from Austin.

-If you would like additional information on the position please send me an email. Thanks!

I got invited to open house as well and my GPA was below a 3.5. I think they focus a lot on the personal statement. Do you work at a children's hospital as an RN? If thats the case, the residency is for nurses with no experience.

I got the email yesterday around 7 that I got the open house/interview! I'm excited but honestly confused on how they are picking since tons of my classmates with better GPAs than me got rejection emails earlier in the day yesterday.

I'm assuming they will be scheduling the shadowing for the following week because the open house goes til 6 and I doubt they would have us go shadow right around shift change.

I also heard from the recruiter back in Feb when I talked to her that they are taking around 70 GNs, so I feel like that is good news! That is why I was surprised to see so many people get rejections haha. I think they are taking so many ICU GNs because the new tower they are building has like 5 floors of ICU or something

If they are only accepting GNs in 3 units 70 seems like a lot haha, but I really hope that is still the case!!

Super excited to also be interviewing! I will have to Skype since I am out of state, but I received an email asking my top choice of unit for me to interview with so it sounds like only one interview.

Did anyone else reply to the recruiter about coming from out of town? She said she would let me know about possibly doing my interview on Friday after the open house but hasn't let me know yet

i emailed her because I'm also out of town. I won't be able to make it in town for the open house because of clinicals, but I'll be home for spring break during the week of interviews!

How was the open house? Did they mention how many GNs each unit is taking?

In my interview yesterday with PICU they told me they are taking 45 for their unit! I think they mentioned how many the other units were taking during the open house but I forgot
