Texas BNE background search

Published

I'm in my final semester of nursing, and i've waited for this for so long and now it's turning out to be a nightmare.

My fingerprints have been rejected twice as being very low quality, as in basically i have no fingerprints and so the FBI cannot run a background check on me. I've now been to Austin Twice to be fingerprinted by the central DPS office where the BNE sends their prints to, the first set was rejected by the FBI, and the second set i'm still waiting on. I've been told that this time if they are rejected, they will have to intitiate a name search, which could take 6weeks -6 months. The supervisor at the BNE told me that last year they had a candidate last year whose name search took 6 months! I'm so frustrated coz this means that i may not be able to start the June internship or even sit for NCLex. It's also more frustrating coz my background is as clear as crystal, and the Texas DPS has cleared me, and Texas is the only state i've lived in, yet that's not enough.

Has anyone else ever had such a problem?

Can new grads start internships without the GN permit?

I am so sorry you are going through all of this.

One suggestion: perhaps you need to go elsewhere to get your fingerprints done because the ones that you got from Austin DPS aren't high enough in quality.

There are cops who have poor technique in this area. I got mine done in downtown Dallas and they were never questioned.

I'm not sure about the name search thing as I had never been through it, but I can tell you first hand that the BNE totally exaggerated how long it would take for me to get my license with the new fingerprint procedures in place.

I sent my application and fingerprints in mid-late October and received my GN permit in mid-December.

They told me 3-6 months and it wasn't true.
