Temp (Camp Nurse) in Maine

Published

I'm going to work as a camp nurse during the summer months near Portland. The farthest point I've been in the northeast was Penn. Anybody from this area? Can you tell me about this area? I plan on going whale-watching, but other than that, I don't know what else there is to do.

I live in Portland, it's a great little city! There are lots of fun things to do here, esp. if you enjoy the outdoors. THere are numerous islands off the coast of Portland (very easy to reach by ferry). If you have access to a bike, I would suggest hopping a ferry from Portland to Peaks Island to explore. They have 'Reggae Fest' every Sunday in the summer on Peaks, it's lots of fun! Kayaking on Casco Bay is also lots of fun. If hiking is your thing, Southern Maine has lots of day hikes for various abilities. What is the name of the camp and what town is it located in? I hope you have a great experience. I hope to be a camp nurse someday :)

Thanks for your reply. The things you suggested sounds like a lot of fun. The camp is located in Casco. As far as catching a ferry to one of the islands, is the boat ride in choppy waters. That kind of water is not for me. I'll be vomiting the entire time. Can you rent a bike? I can't wait. It's already getting really hot down here, and that job (if you want to call it that) is the only thing that is keeping me going.
