I am looking for a more flexible job, and hoping to find something where I could telecommute from home. I have been a nurse for 5 years, working mostly in long term care and rehab. From the research I've done, it sounds like insurance companies sometimes hire nurses for telecommuting positions?
Any suggestions on good companies to work for? I live in the Green Bay, WI area and can't seem to find much locally. Is it possible to get hired just straight telecommuting from the start, if I don't yet have any telephonic nursing experience?
Any advice would be welcome! I did a few searches here, but most of the threads were old.

Hi, I am an LPN and have been working for United Healthcare for 8 years in Untilization Review. I live in GA but UHC is national and you can look for jobs under United Health Group. They are always needing RNs to do case management for chronic diseases and or for inpatient care. The pay is excellent. Most RNs can usually get to work from home, (based on productivity) within 90 days. I have been working from home since 2010. I get paid more than a lot of RNs @ 26.26 per hour. I have to go into the office for team meeting and special meetings but it not usually no more than 2 times per month. You should look into it.
Thank you, I will! :)

I have also been looking for and applying for telecommuting positions. I've been a nurse for 7+ years with a background in cardiac and PACU. It seems that a lot of the jobs are requiring some case management type of experience which has caused me not to apply for those positions. Wondering if I should apply anyway and see if I get any bites. Also, I'm looking for pretty much complete telecommute, as I've just moved from a metropolitan city to the middle of nowhere kind of. Does anybody know how that would work? Am I accurate in assuming that I would have to travel to an onsite training facility for a couple of weeks or so, and then I could do the rest from home? What is a day's work like for a telecommuting nurse? Any info on this would be appreciated!
