TED Hose Application

Nursing Students CNA/MA

The small opening in the hose does go on the bottom of the foot (ball of foot) correct? In this way the top of the toes are fully covered.

In class some students put the hole at the TOP of the toes but then this left the reinforced heel section also on top of the ankle, not on the heel. This can't be right, is it?

This is why I ordered all types to show my students.

I think it's good that you ordered all types. One facility may only have one type and it may be a type that someone is unfamiliar with.

.....to help those little buggers go on a little easier, try applying lotion to the patients legs, not alot, just enough to help the hose slide on easier. The patients love it!

I think the lotion would have an added benefit - moisturizing and conditioning the skin. Thanks for this tip.

yeah, i guess maybe every facility teaches it different. im looking at my NA handbook right now and it says the hole goes on the top so that u can check circulation and it is more comfortable for the pt.

I know. But another type has the hole on the bottom and it's really pretty easy to move it around to check the toes. I have a couple pair of these and actually they are very comfortable. The stocking isn't tight around the toes at all. The toes are loosely covered.

I've also seen one where the entire toe end is open so that all the toes are a little uncovered.

It's just important for everyone to know that there are different types. And now I know this, too. Copy%20of%20wink.gif
