TEAS V: What you should use to study

Published

Hello everyone! I passed my first attempt at the TEAS V today with an 88.

My sub-scale breaks down like this:

Reading 91

Math 97

Science 81

English 87

The main idea of this passage (or is it a theme?) is to enthusiastically endorse the Keshwani exam prep on Youtube. Math is my worst subject (or so I thought) and I was really worried about math after taking the first ATI TEAS exam prep book practice test.

Some other posters here suggested Keshwani for math, and it was a godsend. He goes through every concept in the book and if you watch all of his videos and take notes, it will over-prepare you for everything you may encounter on the TEAS. He is a one heck of a teacher and I laughed out loud dozens of times because he is also hilarious. I am just a guy in Oakland who had never heard of Keshwani a month ago, but it was the most relevant study material I used (besides the ATI book itself).

As far as the other subjects go: I used a little Bozeman and a little Khan Academy for science. But mostly I used the ATI book. Bozeman (IMO) was easier to digest than Khan.

For Reading and English, I used only the ATI book. I had less than a month to study, so I focused primarily on Math and Science.

Final thoughts:

You definitely need the official ATI exam prep book. It's cheaper on Amazon than on the ATI website.

Keshwani for president. But seriously, the ATI book and his videos are ALL you need for math. You will master the concepts and you will learn a bunch of shortcuts to speed you along.

The practice tests (online and in the book) were more difficult than the actual test I took. I never scored higher than 80 on any of the practice tests.

Go ahead and take both tests in the book. Use the answer sheet, score it, study what you missed, then take it again by circling your answers. See if you improve.

Still trippin? Spring for the $46 ($46 EACH?!? Just take ALL my money, ATI) online practice tests on the ATI website and take those twice, too. It's the only way to really get familiar with the test format and the writing style of the questions. Good luck, everyone. Thank you, AllNurses.com, for the forum. It helped me a great deal.

Thank you very much for this information!

First off, I want to say congrats on the score!! Good job.. And thank you for this post. Ive taken both practice exams in the ATI book as well as the McGraw Hill practice exams and I've scored between a 76- 88... For both ATI exams I did not score past an 80 and that really troubled me because after all they are the ones who make the exam. I had planned on purchasing one of the online exams later today after more studying, and I've been so worried because I'm aiming for over an 85 at the very least. But it's a little bit of a relief that you mentioned that you felt the real exam was easier than the practice ATI exams! In terms of the science section, did you feel like you had a lot of A & P questions? And with the English section, did you have simple and complex sentence questions?

I remember I had less than ten or so A & P questions. I definitely had no simple vs. complex sentence questions. Of course, the proctor informed us that each of us (eight test-takers) would have a different version of the test. I don't think you can gauge what material is going to be on the test by asking others.

I remember a number of questions I felt wholly unprepared for, but keep in mind that twenty of the 150 questions are not scored. ATI is just collecting data with those. Every time I had no clue about a question, I assumed it was one of those, and that calmed me. You're going to kill it!

I think your passage about Keshwani is persuasive in nature! ;) Seriously, I love the guy. I first heard about him here and decided to give him a shot. At first, I thought I wouldn't be able to endure the guy for 50+ days; however, the strangest thing happened. To my pure astonishment, I found myself looking forward to his videos day in and day out. He is a freakin (his words) character.

Anyway, I just want you to know how much I agree with you. Keshwani for president! I will join you in campaigning for him. To anyone else afraid of math, please look him up on youtube. He works out of the teas v handbook and walks you through every page in the math section.

Also, congrats on your stupendous score! I am due to take my teas soon, and I'm finally feeling like I can tackle the test. I've been so fearful and had to dig as deep as I could emotionally to muster up the courage. Now, I am ready to put it behind me. I am happy to hear you mention that the real exam is easier than the on-line practice tests. They truly killed my confidence. I've since tightened up areas of improvement and will continue to do so for the next week.

Go Keshwani!
