Does anyone know if the teas test is the same for the lpn and rn. My school and both programs and Iwanted to apply for both but didn't know if i would ahve to spend $35.00 for both tests or not. There is only one study guide for the test.

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

teas (test of essential academic skills)

yes, it is the same test for both, but each school may require you to take the test. call the schools and ask them if you need to repeat the test. it is the score you get on the test that the school is interested in. your grade is compared to other data that the company has for the country and each particular school. each nursing school has statistical information compiled by ati, the company that writes the teas test, that tells them at what range of knowledge a student needs to be in order to be a successful student in their nursing program.

the test covers four general areas: math, reading, english and science. you can get online resources without having to buy any study guides.

  • math covers whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportion
    • i can give you a website where you can do some practice of math problems and get information on how to solve the problems step-by-step. i would recommend that you choose a book of pre-algebra level math on the site since those are the math skills the teas test covers. i usually suggest the author, martin-gay who has written a number of algebra textbooks.
      • http://www.interactmath.com/ - follow the instructions to download the one or two drivers necessary to use the software on the site. the site is free to use and is a student companion resource to the math textbooks published by this company. i used this program extensively to practice working math problems when i took intermediate algebra and trig.

[*]reading covers paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions

[*]english covers knowledge of punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words and spelling

[*]science covers science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, basic physical principles and general science

Thank you so much. And I really appreciate all the extra info.
