Teas Test

Published

Hi,

I am taking the Teas Test next month at Ivy Tech. I bought the Teas study guide and I'm studying my booty off! Has anyone taken a Teas test that had questions that were not in the the guide?

Thanks a bunch! :icon_hug:

Most people really loved the guide. I'm not one of them. I bought a guide and 2 on-line practice exams. I thought the guide was way harder than the actual TEAS. I only got a 78% on 1 on-line practice after having scored a 88% on my first shot at the actual TEAS. I didn't have any questions similar to the guide on my TEAS. However, I mainly used the guide for the science portions, so I can't say much about the other parts of it.

In the end, I went ahead and took my pre-req classes and then tried the TEAS once more. That time I scored a 92%. I didn't take it again because I figured I'd peaked.

I think if you do well on the ATI practice exams, you'll do phenomenal on the TEAS.

I sure hope so! I have a 4.0 GPA right now. It's scary because I could get a 9o% and still not get in. It's driving me crazy:yldhdbng:

I've heard that there is a different test at every computer. Have you ever heard that?

Thanks for the info. I'd much rather be over prepared than under anyday!

I heard that there were 4 different test options you could get but I got the same one both times. I worried that my grade wasn't enough right up until I got my acceptance letter. If I didn't worry about that, I'm sure I'd be worrying about something else!

I am in the same boat and take the test on Friday. I have the GPA, but everything now hinges on the TEAS since they do a point system. Last year the program had over 400 eligible applicants and those that got accepted had a TEAS score avg of 96%. I guess that is the individual percentile program rank, not an actually score. But still. Yikes! Maybe even smarter people are taking the test this year! I am pretty nervous. Even if the math is basic, I haven't had to do basic math computation in 25-30 years. I haven't had the kind of earth science in even longer. I skimmed through my middle schooler's science book for a quick review.

The good part is I can take the TEAS as many times as I want (at 4 brain-splitting hours and $40 a pop) and they use the highest score. I just need to send by results by the end of March. I think I can squeeze in another one before then. Good luck!

hi hotflashn, how was the test? was it anything like the study guide? do you know your score yet? my finger's are crossed for you!

thanks. no no results yet, probably not until friday.

yes, the test was like the guide, maybe easier in some respects.some questions seem almost directly out of the guide, with just a tweak. if you stick to the guide and do some math drills like 4th grade, you will be ok. just make sure your math is fast. back solve when you can, and use the fact that it is multiple choice test to your advantage. make sure you scan the answers before you start to solve anything, because it might just be a decimal or scientific notation questions where you needn't actually do the math computation, just know where the decimal goes. that will save you time for the tougher questions. if i didn't know how to answer or how to do something, i would guess and tag it so i could go back. sometimes i still didn't know, but it saved me time instead of getting stuck and flustered.

also, it seemed i had a ton of spelling on my test. make sure you go through the commonly misspelled and commonly confused word lists. the english and language usage aspects were very well represented in the guide.

Hello Nervous,

The study guide is good preparation, but it is even harder than the actual test. Now the math part is the one that gives people trouble because you won't have a lot of time. The math is actually pretty basic. Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division. Know your metric conversions, know how many cups/quarts/pints/gallon. Ratios and cross multiplication. Backsolve like the previous poster said. Plan on spending at most 2-3 minutes per problem. Take a watch. If you spend too much time skip the problem, and go back at the end and make educated guesses. (Don't leave it blank) Also solve only as much as you need to. For example, lets say that you have to multiply or add several numbers together and you have four answers all ending with different numbers. Once you solve for the ending number don't bother to finish calculating the whole problem. You also don't have time to check and recheck your answers (at least I didn't, some others may be speedier). You will do just fine. You have a whole month to prepare. I don't remember a single Geometry question. Also if the school you are applying to allows you to take the TEAS more than once then I am told scores go up an average of 10 points.

thank you, thank you jbrn2b! your a life saver!:icon_hug:

thanks hotflashn, i had not heard anything yet about the spelling.
