Teas Test lets hear what you have to say

My test is coming up too. Unfortunately i do not live in the fresno area i actually live in miami. I just want to know a good website that i can go to that has a good free study guide so i could have a good idea what would be on the test. I hear that there was a science portion and im pulling my hair out! If someone could help me i would deeply appreciate it. GOOD LUCK though and all the best!:uhoh21:

Check out www.testpreview.com... The ATI testing website also sells a workbook that's also a big help, but a bit pricey. Good luck! :specs:

EEEEEEEEEK the science was horribly difficult. The math was very, very easy. Just basic fractions, decimals, etc. But the science has questions spat out from all different corners of the field (GEOLOGY, insect biology, etc etc!!!). I'd recommend getting your basics in math down pat, but I'd REALLY focus on all the science stuff. It's so random it's crazy.

The science section was a little crazy. The content wasn't necessary complicated, but it was all over the place. I had one anatomy/physiology question, yet 3 or 4 on geology (which I have never taken except for maybe a week or two in a highschool science class). Also had quite a few on the scientific process and relating it to experiements and such. Weird.

Anyways, I felt that the ATI study guide did an okay job of telling what type of science questions could be covered, but the Kaplan Nursing School Entrance exams actually went into detail over the material.

I took the TEAS in January and the science part is all over the place so don't get discouraged if you don't do too well in it. Most of my questions were chemistry or geology....2 physiology questions and 2 microbiology questions. crazy huh? The last time I learned about geology, I was in Jr. High School. The only pointer I have for the science part is that if you don't know the answer, just pick the answer with a term most familiar to you. For example, for all the geology questions, not only did I not know the answer, 3 of my 4 options I had never even heard of the terms of so I just chose the one option that I had actually heard of. In case you were wondering, I got a 100% on the life science (aka geology) section of the TEAS. I couldn't believe it myself. Of course I don't swear by this method, but it worked for me.

As for the math section. I thought the math was easy...but they don't let you use a calculator. So there would be a lot of calculation for a single problem that you had to do by hand. For example (and of course this isn't the exact problem):

$2.25 - 8 inch bandage

$4.40 - 6 inch bandage

$3.50 - Clear tape

$1.75 - Blue tape

$8.00 - Foaming Soap

$3.35 - Water-free Soap

How much would it cost for 3 8-inch bandages, , 1 6-inch bandage, 2 rolls of blue tape, 1 role of clear tape, 6 bottles of foaming soap, and 4 bottles of water-free soap?

Of course that easy to do on a calculator, but a whole other story by hand. And your choices are very similar. Also not all of the math section is like this. There's fractions, percentages, metric conversions also that aren't so time consuming as this problem.

As far as the english and reading section, it's just like those standardized test you got in high school.

how long did you guys prepare for the teas test? I got micro for the summer right now so i can't really study for it but after micro there is like 2 weeks before my fall semester starts and I was wondering if you guys think it is possible to take the teas with only 2 weeks of studying-hardcore studying like everyday 9 hours lol.

I must admit, and I'm not trying to brag or anything, but I didn't study at all, and I got a 90%. I knew going into it that there would only be 30 science questions. I had taken all my science prereqs the past two semesters so the information was still fresh in my brain. I think it also had to do with the fact that I was so burnt out by the end of the semester that I didn't have it in me to study hours on end. Everyone seemed to approach it a little different. It would be impossible to read all your textbooks over again. Some people bought TEAS study guide and said it was extremely helpful.

Just a heads up, there's 40 math questions, 40 reading questions, 55 english questions, and like I said before, there are 30 science questions.

thanks seyma- very helpful post. I was just going to use the teas study guide and the online question things. I hope I can do basic math lol because I have been so dependent on calculators!

how was the english portion by the way? I hope it isn't like spelling or grammar or like finding articles or nouns lol because I am so rusty.

Unfortunately there is spelling which was my weakest spot. I can't spell anything without a dictionary. I got 50% on the spelling section. They gave me words like questionnaire and maintenance and the options were so close together. For instance for maintenance my options were:

A) maintainance

B) maintanance

C) maintenance

D) maintanence

The grammar is mostly like sentence structure not really identifying the noun or the verb or the direct object or anything like that. THANK GOD because I would have done horrible if that was the case. Like they'll give you a sentence and then you'll have 4 options of sentence corrections. I've heard the TEAS study guide though is really good for everything (english, reading, math) but the science section. So you may want to tackle the science part another way. The science part is all over the place so it's kind of hard to study for without studying a million textbooks.
