I am looking for advise on how to pass the reading section of the Ati Teas 6. I have taken the test three times and scored on the reading section a 68.1% on the first two attempts and a 70.2% on the third attempt. My nursing program requires a 70.5% to apply so I was very disappointed because I was so close!! When I retake it again this fall I would love to score at least an 80 on the reading. I have been studying the Ati manual for months and took practice test A. I'm not sure what else I can do to improve my score. Advise on how to study for this section is greatly appreciated!!

The reading section is truly about getting comfortable with reading a passage, quickly and efficiently, and being able to keep your mind focused on the words and retaining it well enough to either be able to read a question and quickly know where you'd find the answer, remember the information, and be able to analyze a piece of text to come to different conclusions. I'd say the best way to study for this section, besides going through the manual and getting used to the structure of the exam itself, is pick a topic that bores you to death, open websites or news-related sites related to that topic, and just start reading. I say pick something boring because it's easy to pay attention and enjoy reading something that interests you and you will always do better under those conditions, but if let's say you couldn't care less about planets and space-related things (lol), go to NASA's site and start reading things. Although it won't come in the form of reading comprehension, that will get you more comfortable with reading text that isn't interesting to you. You can also do a search for SAT and Reading Regents stuff, which will also prepare you well for reading comprehension. The passages, however, I believe are much longer, so don't stress out over the fact that you'll be faced with the same lengthy texts for the TEAS. The TEAS passages range from 2 very short paragraphs to the longest I experienced was 6 short paragraphs. And when I say short, I really do mean it. It'll be like 3-4 sentences max. But just being able to read text and answer questions is what you need to get good at for this section. Also, if you don't have an extensive vocabulary and sometimes find it hard to figure out the meaning of a word based on the surrounding text, practice that as well. Lastly, my advice is to always skim the questions before reading the text. It'll save you some time because now you have an idea of what you're looking for while reading. Don't read the answers if possible, just the questions, because sometimes reading the answers and knowing you're on a time limit can lead you to now skim the actual text rather than read it because you feel like you should just look for the answer. Not wise imo because sometimes you'll see the answer quickly, but if you had read the text, the next paragraph would have something in there that makes that an incorrect choice. Definitely just practice reading. Again, it's all about being efficient and quick. In every piece of text, there's always filler text to bulk up a passage, so be able to tell when something isn't really relevant and be able to quickly read through it. Good luck! :)
Thank you! I will definitely practice reading passages.I just freeze up on timed test but looking over the questions is an awesome tip.

I took my TEAS yesterday. I received an 83.0% in reading. That was one of my hardest areas too, due to time constraints. What helped me was taking the practice testes through ATI (they are expensive though). TIME YOURSELF when you practice. This helped me a lot. timing yourself like the real test lets you get a feel for your time limit and how fast you have to read. Also, the mometrix ATI book helped me greatly. There are 3 practice tests in the book, which helped me to practice even more!
Also, as Michelle0128 answered, read the QUESTIONS before the passage, so you do get an idea for what you're looking for. Hope that helps!
Thanks Autumn175 I was also thinking about getting the Momentrix book so now I definitely will. Did u find the questions in the Momentrix book to be similar to the test? Congrats on reading section, you scored awesome! Hope to score well next time also:)

There is a $15 app I bought on my phone called "pocket prep" I used that and the mometrix manual. However, I found the app to be tremendously helpful and it has 1400 questions and gives explanations for every question! You can also choose what sections you want to test on. I was very confident in math so I never tested questions in that section. I scored an 88 overall, and in reading specifically I scored 91.3%.
i never purchased the ati manual or
practice tests, I didn't want to spend the money and the mometrix manual has amazing reviews with many claiming they preferred it over the ati manual. The apps questions and mometrix manual are the the same format as the TEAS test, so it should give you adequate practice and make you more comfortable when you take the test again. I basically practiced questions and studied explanations over and over again for 4 weeks. It definitely paid off.
Than you Larocquh!! I will check out the pocket prep app and buy the Momentrix book. Hope it really helps me :)
No problem! Would love to hear how you end up doing next time :)

There are different versions of the exam, so yes, most likely it will be entirely different questions.
Thank you!

Hi, you have come soooooo close - you can do this! I have been helping students at a local community college pass the Reading section of the TEAS. Based on feed back I have received from students, none of the TEAS prep manuals are very effective for Reading strategies. I recommend that you search on you tube for Reading strategies.
