Teas help please-- studying science? Psi testing center? The practice tests?

Hi everyone,

I take my teas 6 this Wednesday at a PSI testing center and I have a couple questions about a bunch of things.

1) There's just so much science I have no idea where to begin. I took chemistry. microbio, and physiology but have yet to take anatomy. I can't wait till I finish anatomy unless I want to delay myself an additional semester. When I was taking the practice test in the book, I honestly only truly knew maybe 25% of the questions (got 24/47 because of lucky guesses). I am honestly so lost and need some guidance. I feel like there is just way too much and it's way too detailed. How can I improve my score?

2) Should I purchase the practice A & B tests? How alike are they to the real test? I've read several different things so I'm not sure. Are the ATI study manual quizzes alike to the real test at all as well? Does anyone have any experience with uniontestprep and the actual test?

3) I need to score a minimum score of 78% (aiming for 85+). I've done fairly well on the reading, math and english portions but there is some room for improvement. Should I just make sure I ace those portions (those portions don't frustrate me and come easy) or should I leave them alone and focus on the science for the remainder of my time?

4) Lastly, does anyone know how long it takes a school to receive your scores? I take my test on the 10th and my app is due on the 15th. I know at a psi testing center you don't get your scores right away but rather 48 hours later... will the school get them in that time frame as well? Also please tell me about your experiences at a psi testing center please.

    So I'm not sure what a psi school is, but do you have the ATI test book? If not, YOU NEED IT! Same company who wrote the test, created a test book to help you focus on what to study for. There are practice questions for each section (Math, English, Reading, and Math) and it gives rationales for the correct answers.

    If you can't get the book, DO THE PRACTICE Exams (A & B) for sure! I have heard that they are harder than the test! And the questions are similar and you can get an idea of what you may need to study!

    YouTube will be your friend for the next few days! CrashCourse is GREAT! Short review videos! New Anatomy and Physiology is great (longer, lecture type videos), Bozeman science is good, Mandi Parker is amazing, Khan Academy is great, Anatomy GMC is great (lecture videos), Osmosis, Professor Fink, Mometrix Teas 6 Science.

    BTW, why did you wait until the last minute? It's a lot of material!

    1. I'm not sure how much of the science you'll be able to learn in 2-3 days. But you should try to review/learn what you can. My suggestion is watch Crash Course on youtube for a good overview of A&P. Then, I'd say study the endocrine system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, and integumentary system in more detail. (+ Digestive system if you have time.) Review cell components (mitochondria, etc). Khan Academy has good videos that go into details.

    2. I would purchase at least one and do it right away. That way, you can easily tell what areas you should focus on in the next few days. You don't have the time to try to sit down and figure out your weak points for the specific areas tested on.

    3. Maybe spend a day reviewing and going over the sections you are more confident with. Spend some type on grammar because each missed question on the English section is more overall points than in any other sections. Even missing one gets you like a 93% on that section. Just know that if you only work on these sections and don't improve on science, then you don't have a lot a lot of margin for error. Even missing one and staying the same on your science would get you around an 84%. If you happen to get more questions on the science that you don't know, then you could easily get knocked below the 79%. You want to try to improve both.

    And I can't help you with the last thing. I did mine on a computer, so I knew my score right away.

    If your school limits the number of TEAS attempts, and you have never taken anatomy as you say- you should consider taking anatomy before TEAS as it is the fundamental science to nursing.

    A delay vs. not getting in at all because you scored as poorly as you mentioned - seems pretty obvious.
