Teas 6 Practice vs. Test

Hello all,

I am taking my TEAS exam tomorrow. I have read many articles on this site having to do with the TEAS practice exams A & B versus the real thing. I took practice exam A and scored a 70 and then an 84 the second time (I believe I remembered a lot of the answers the second time so not helpful) I took the practice test B yesterday and received a 76 (I thought this one was much harder than practice test A). I have been using the ATI manual to study and will keep studying all today and then retake B tonight. I thought since I am so curious to see how they all line up I will make a post on here tomorrow about what I thought of the test vs the practice ones! I have to get a 65 for one program I am applying to and a 78 for the other, wish me luck & stay tuned!

Okay so I took the TEAS for the very first time today and received an 82. I was very happy with this score overall and it gave me the score I need to get into both of my programs. I am however, going to take the TEAS again in January and study all Christmas break to see if I can get my score into the 90's. The only study material I used were the ATI official manual and the Practice Exams. I think that the practice exams helped me the most content wise and helped me know what to expect format wise (the teas looks just like the online practice tests). I received a 92 on reading (always my strongest subject), an 87 on math (my worst subject I had to take intermediate algebra three times, so that says a lot), a 70 in science (VERY A&P content heavy!!!) and a 75 in the grammar/english (I'm good with this subject and it was still tricky, thinking you know english is different than KNOWING rules, sentence structure, punctuation, etc.) My advice for each subject would be: when doing the reading section always ask yourself "what are they REALLY asking for" the wording of questions can be tricky sometimes. Math: Go over basic math, the ATI manual does a good job with this and the practice tests were similar to the difficulty. Science: Study A&P!! Your best bet would be to take the test right after A&P 2 (thats when you'll feel more prepared). Grammar: For spelling always look at the word and then write it on a piece of paper, just looking at the options made me second guess myself when my brain already knew the real answer. My overall advice would be GET the practice exams and read the manual and you will know what to expect. Your practice quizzes (for me at least) will basically tell you what you'll get aka don't get a 65 on the practice exam and expect an 80! Hope this helps!

So many posts from people who haven't taken it... thanks for the follow up, on point. Why take it again BTW? You got in to two separate schools. Most struggle to find one

The program I am applying to requires you to get at least a 78 on the TEAS. My GPA is a 3.3/3.4 so I'm trying to get my TEAS score as high as possible to make myself more competitive because my GPA isn't the best out there.

Congrats!! That's my score goal - above an 80. I got a 75 practice test A then 77 on practice test B but I am hoping my score on the actual test will be higher than that. I never got the manual though and I wish I did... I am taking the TEAS on Wednesday at 830 am... wish me luck AH

I also just took the TEAS test and got an 84.7% overall. 91.5% in reading, 96.9% in math, 72.3% in science, 75% in english. The science portion was definitely harder than any study material I have used in the past 3 months. They definitely ask very detailed questions on the actual TEAS test. If you don't have a good foundation in science then I would most definitely concentrate on it particularly and study it as much as you can. There's also a certain way questions are asked on the test and there's a certain answer that is obviously wrong by just looking at it. I would keep taking practice tests and really pay attention to how they ask the question and learn how to spot a wrong answer.

I'll give tips on the reading and math since those were my highest scores.

My tip on the reading section is to ONLY look at what's in the passage given. NEVER apply your own knowledge to it. For example, it might ask "Who can score a point in a volleyball game?" A person who knows that game would say both sides can score but the passage says "Only the team serving can score." You might quickly choose the answer "both sides can score" because that's what you already know but you may not know that there are different ways to play the game. Just a heads up!

My tip for math is to familiarize yourself with converting decimals and fractions. They ask a lot of real world problems like taking 50% off an item you want to buy then taking an additional 20% off. I'd practice a lot of it at the store with my calculator. I almost ran out of time on the math so for the last 10 questions, I would only use the calculator to find the answer. They might ask you to list the given fractions and decimals in order. Learn how to convert a fraction to a decimal because that's the easiest way to see where to place the number in order.

Hey! Can you please post the link of where you bought the ATI manual and where you can get the practice A and B tests? I just want to make sure I buy the correct up to date one!

So you guy spent over $100 on the book and practice exams? The test cost me like 140 and spending another $100 ish seems like so much. I am debating what books and prep to buy. When I took the HESI, I only bought a Kaplan book and pocket prep. DO you think the online practice tests are a must have??

Great job on your test, that is a fantastic result! I wonder if anyone has ever used TEAS test bank practice before? I see that they have quite useful materials
