TEAS 4.0 on computer - can go back?

My wife will be taking the TEAS 4.0 computer exam in 2 weeks. We've been doing a lot of work to prepare for it. There's one important question we haven't been able to find an answer to, though -- will she be able to skip harder questions and return to them later, at the end of the section? We're worried she might run out of time on the math if she has to answer them all in order.

One other question -- about what percent of the science test is not biology? We're a bit worried about that, too. The science looks pretty hard.

Thanks!

I just took the TEAS V and you are able to go back and review your answers. I think you still have to put an answer in to move on to the next page of questions but you can go back. However, once you've finished a section and moved on to the next one, you can't go back. In other words if you finish English and then move on to the Math, you can't go back and review/change answers in the English section. Again, this was for the TEAS 5 so I would assume it is the same with TEAS 4. She should ask the testing center or call the customer service number on atitesting.com (the company that makes the test). Good luck to her!

Yes, in Teas 4 (and perhaps in Teas 5, I don't know) you can freely move back and forth through the whole test, if you like. But that takes time. In fact, if you are panicked, you could use up all your allotted time doing just that. (There is a toolbar with the Time Remaining in each section, so she should always know how long she has.)

As a strategy, you should ALWAYS answer EVERY question, even if you're just guessing. (I then wrote the numbers on my scratch paper of the questions I wanted to check if I had time, so I wouldn't forget.)

It is often very possible on Teas to eliminate a couple of the answers just by looking at them, so your chances are actually fair right there even if you look at, say, a math question and say --"Whoa, that is going to take a lot of time to calculate. I'll see if I have time to pick up those points at the end, rather than risk not finishing the section."

That way, if time runs out, you won't have to go back and frantically try to find the questions you skipped just to guess at them. You will know that everything has some kind of answer.

Math was hardest for me, and the time is very short. I have never run out of time on a math test or standardized test, not even close (PSAT, SAT, GRE etc.) but I did my first time on Teas. I understand your wife's anxiety -- I have my fingers crossed for her.

My advice? Don't be afraid to guess. And if she wants/needs to take it again, a substantial portion of the questions will reappear. So if she can kinda have the presence of mind to read and remember the license plate of the bus as it is running her over (it's hard, I know), she will be in a MUCH better position to nail that sucker next time!

It's good of you to help and support her.

I too ran out of time with the math section...I was actually working out the very last problem on paper and right before I went to click the answer, time ran out.

Hi juniorminty / abby normal --

This is great advice. Thank you very much. I think we'll go with the strategy you've recommended. Answer every one as it comes up, but write down on her scratch paper the numbers of those she was unsure of. Then if there's time, she can go back.

Thanks for your help!

what did u use to study for teas 4.0

Hi, we used the official TEAS book that you get directly from ATI at their website, plus the McGraw-Hill Nursing School Entrance Exams book. I also got her the Homework Helpers Biology book by Matthew Distefano since she hadn't had any prior science classes. For math, we used two Pre-Algebra workbooks -- one by Mary Lee Vivian, the other by Theresa Kane McKell. They were very helpful.

Specializes in Emergency.

I'm confused. How can she have never had any science courses but is applying to nursing school and taking the TEAS?

When I took the TEAS there was some Geography, some chemistry, some physics, and some other random stuff... It was all over with just general science knowledge.

Well, she did her high school in Indonesia. There you can choose a natural sciences or a social sciences track. She did social sciences. So yes, she was definitely coming from behind with the science. Even though we spent over a month on biology, her lowest score by far was on the science section. Fortunately it's the section with the least number of questions!

I'm still confused. Usually nursing schools here in America don't accept Social Science as their pre-req courses to be accepted into the program. They usually require Biology, A&P, Microbiology, and sometimes Chemistry or Bio-Chem...

No need to explain further. But, Good Luck.
