Tampa VA Hospital- New Grad Internship

Published

Hello

I recently got hired at the Tampa VA for their new grad internship program. Does anyone know anything about what to expect? Or has anyone gone through this program?

Any information is appreciated.

Thank you!

Hey Honeydue,

I'm sorry I don't have an answer to your question, I just wanted to say thanks for asking, b/c I had no idea the VA had an internship! I graduate on the 18th, so I have been researching jobs... and see I may have a problem! The VA sounds like a great place to work... I'm sure they have awesome benefits too.... Will you keep me updated on how it goes? I am really interested!

TIA, Shelley

Hi Shelley

Sure, I will keep you updated. It's kinda one of those things you have to talk to the nurse recruiter about. At least that's how is was at the Tampa VA. The job was not advertised anywhere. I found out about it by just calling around and asking if they offered any programs for graduate nurses. Check your local hospitals also. A lot of them offer those type of positions for graduate nurses. Most of them start around the time after graduation (Jan, June and Oct). So for you it might be a good time to check into it asap because a new program should be starting in January.

Hey Honeydue,

Thanks for responding so fast! I have been looking into hospitals from St Pete to Tampa, so far I had only found Morton Plant and All Children's to have the programs. I wonder how many other places have to be called! I am so glad to hear the VA does have the program, b/c they were one of my top choices.

So have you started yet?! Excited and petrified?! :yeah:

Hey Honeydue,

How's it going at the VA? Do you like it?

Hey Shelley

So far so good...It has been a week as of today. Pretty much I have been doing lots of orientation, I haven't started on the floor yet. Tomorrow is the last day of nursing orientation and off to the floor I go on Wednesday. I am very excited!!! I will let you know how things go.

Thanks for asking :nurse:

Have you had any luck with jobs?

Sounds great! How long is the orientation? What is the internship all about? I'm bummed I missed it. No luck with jobs yet. :( This is NOT good. My landlord wasn't paying his mortgage so we got a letter saying the house was going to be auctioned, so we had to move, quickly. I don't have a job, or any money saved and I have 2 dogs so finding a place within a week was out of the question. We're staying with my boyfriend's parents until I find something. This is a nightmare! Who knew it would be like this?! I thought after graduation my life would be soo much easier and better! Not quite. :(
