Tampa/St. Pete New Grads-where are the jobs @??

Published

So I moved here in May and got my license in June. I knew it wasn't going to be easy finding a job, but never dreamed I'd still be job hunting in July . I have applied at USF, TGH, Baycare, Bayfront, HCA (does their system send rejection e mails by default or what?), Town & Country and Moffit. Everyone wants hospital experience -and lpn experience in a snf doesn't count. Being new in town with limited networking hasn't helped much either. A couple of places I called told me to be on the look out for NG internships. So, my fellow competitors, where's the jobs?

I would say keep trying! I was lucky and worked on the floor as a tech. They held a job opening for me once I became a nurse.

Good for you! I have no choice but to keep trying, but knowing someone somewhere got hired gives me hope :).

I moved here in the beginning of July and have called, emailed, applied, visited hospital HR offices to hear "we are not hiring new grads at this time" and "only can apply to new grad internship program". I thought that was what nursing school is called...an internship. Not to mention the two years I spent slaving away as a Nurse Tech up in Cincinnati, I thought would account for some "experience". If this keeps up looks like I'll have to leave my fiance again to head back up to Cincinnati for a job:(

Just an update for anyone who is interested. After three months of long hours at the computer, countless phone calls, many trip to hospital HR departments, 4 interviews, and 1 horrible shift at a poorly run nursing home....this new grad is hired on a HOSPITAL med/surg floor in the tampa/clearwater market. I felt the need to post this because I wanted to give hope to all the other new grads out there desperate for jobs. I know that I am very fortunate. Keep in mind this company sent me many rejection letters and then they miraculously called me last week. My advice keep plugging away, be pleasant to everyone even after they tell you their not hiring, and most importantly stay positive.

Great Inspiration. Congrats to you. I wish you the best of luck!

KKrumm02 - do you mind telling what hospital you got hired at? I live in the Orlando area but have been trying the Tampa are as well for the last few months. Any info would really help!

Just wanted to tell all the new grads to keep your head up and don't give up. Jobs are scarce in the beginning but when you do find a job give it a year or 2 and you will the hottest commodity on the market and will literally be able to close your eyes out your finger on a giant map and go there!

Thanks Canadian Girl!

Baycare.org and you will need to be an RN

Hey guys,

I work at TGH and honestly, just apply to any non-icu RN position. If they've been available for more than a month, they need nurses. Keep following up. I have nurse managers trying to get me to stay on their floor (I float). Stay positive! Good luck!
