Tampa/Plant City/Zephyrhills hospitals

Published

Hi all,

Was just looking for information on Tampa area hospitals. Basic pay for 5 year ADN/RN, shift differentials, nurse : patient ratios, cleanliness, BSN requirements (must have within 5 years type stuff)? I'm also interested in knowing if they hire travel positions during season.

Looking at:

South Florida Baptist in Plant City

Baycare System

Florida Hospital Zephyrhills

Florida Hospital Tampa

Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel

St Joseph's Hospital North

Lakeland Regional

Thanks for any info you can give me.

Baycare Hospital system in general

Bump. I'm curious as well.

Specializes in oncology, MS/tele/stepdown.
Hi all,

I can only comment on Baycare. I don't know starting salaries for staff nurses. I know to be a hospital-based pool nurse is a negligible hourly increase. The money is in their mobile pool, which is how Baycare hires their own travelers.

Mobile pool is $40/hr, +1/hr weekend, +5/hr nights, +housing stipend if you accept it. They only count the big winter holidays for holiday diff. Housing is only given for the first six months if you're from out of town, I believe, although it might repeat if you travel back each season. Hours aren't guaranteed, but season is so busy you don't really have to worry. I got lucky and I've only been canceled on weeks I volunteered to pick up and just haven't gotten OT. But I've met nurses who went staff because they got canceled too often. Everyone is in a BSN program, so I'm sure there's a requirement to get it eventually but I never pay attention to that since I have a BSN. With mobile pool, you qualify for medical insurance only, not dental/vision.

Ratio-wise, I work the floor so I can only comment on that. My floor is 1:4-5 days and 1:5-6 on nights, obviously the higher number during season. I spoke with another nurse manager who told me they take up to 7 patients on nights on her floor, so I know that happens at certain hospitals/floors, but I've never seen it.

It's a long application process so if you are interested in working there this fall/winter, apply now. They save your application if you're accepted, so if you take another travel contract in the meantime, just let them know and they'll call if they have an opening for you in a few months.

Thanks for the answer. I got just about the same answer from someone else in a private message.

Really thinking about trying Baycare as my own "instate travel assignment" this winter to see if I like it.
