Tampa Bay CNA Courses - Evening and/or Weekend?

Published

Hi everyone!

I'm considering becoming a CNA for experience while I'm saving up to go back to school to become a nurse. I checked the FL Board of Nursing website for CNA courses, but the most updated list of schools they have is from 2006, and it looks like many of the courses in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area are no longer in existence. Has any one recently taken CNA courses in the Tampa Bay area, and can you recommend a school or organization that offers them? PTEC only offers them in the daytime, and I need to do evening/weekend because I work full time.

Also, do employers care where you went for the CNA prep courses, or do they mainly just look at whether you're certified? Any luck getting evening/night work?

Any replies or advice would be very much appreciated!

Hi there,

I was wondering if I could get some help on CNA employment ....

I've passed my CNA test and have been looking for a job since August 2009. I've applied at TGH, St Joseph, Morton Plant, and HCA hospital and numerous assisted living facilities and nursing homes in the Tampa area.

I havent got any calls back or interviews - quite puzzled - since they say the health care field has a shortage..

If anybody can help - I'm quite frustrated and wondering what to do...

you could also try at Tampa bay tech hs. they offer evening classes for CNA. It is located on orient rd. and sligh ave.

Specializes in CNA/HHA/Companion duties.

I just signed up for the CNA course through HCC Continuing Ed. It starts Monday, Jan 11, 2010.......nights and some Saturdays.

Hi Seablue,

I passed my CNA state test on March 17, have submitted over a dozen applications to different hospitals and and LTCF's and haven't received any phone calls either. A couple of weeks ago a friend from my CNA class got a job as a home health care aide. She told me another girl from out class got hired as a hha also. It seems it might be easier to get a job in that field as a graduate CNA, because the hospitals and ltcf's seem to be looking for experienced CNA's. So I've been looking around for some good agencies to work for. The only problem is that it seems that the agencies will not reimburse you for any tuition and fees you paid if you took a CNA course, also their benefits are limited.

I attended Tampa Bay CNA they did NOT CHARGE 650.00 that is an error.

This is the BEST Program in town.

First you go to one ALL DAY Training Hands on... Rev Arianna is the BEST teacher around. She explains everything and truly cares about you passing the exam.

I passed the first time.

They also have videos on-line of ALL the skills. This truly helped me PASS the exam.

They also gave me lots of nursing equipment so I could practice skills at home and included a free CPR. The CPR is normally around $50 to 60 all by it's self.

I paid $349.99 it was worth every penny.

They did not advertise it but they included the 12 additional courses for my December license renewal. That normally cost over $200.00. You can not beat their price.

I love that everything is also on line. The on-line classroom helped me memorize the CNA Skills.

So, whoever wrote that they were charging $650.00 is in error. I took their class and passed first time.

Hi Robinann.

I know your post was from a while ago, but hopefully you'll see this message and respond. I'm seriously considering taking the CNA accelerated course at HCC Continuing Ed in January 2011. Can I ask you a few questions about your experience? Would you recommend the HCC CNA course? Where did you do your clinicals? Did you pass the exam and get a job as a CNA--or in other words, was it worth it? I think it's going to cost around $750 but I'll be waiting 8 months before nursing school begins. I really want to get a job as a CNA to get my feet wet since all my past work experience was in an office (not medical). Although it's a little expensive, I thought the 2 weeks experience in a hospital as part of the training would be very helpful.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

CNa class will start in Aug *** She is teaching at aparicio Levy hi tech in Tampa
