Taking Time Off At New Job

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hi,

I am not a CNA yet however I am thinking about plans I have for next year. I plan to start working, or at least entering the job market in February. The thing is, I have a planned trip I will be taking towards the end of June and will need to not work for a week. I don't know what my future employer's policies will be but I do know that taking 1 week off 4 months into working is a lot to ask for. Do you think I should mention that I will need to do that during an interview or right after I get hired? Or should I just try and work per diem or temp jobs until after that trip? I don't take (m)any vacations or travel much and I am not one to take any days off unless I can't get out of bed, but this is really important. It is also important to pay my bills too. I just wanted to see if anyone could share their experiences with taking time off. Anyway, thanks everyone for any suggestions or advice you leave me!

I work in HR and just completed the CNA traning and am awaiting for my exam date. Once an offered is made to you and you accept the offer at that time would be approriate to indicate the time off you have already scheduled. Most employers have PTO time that you can start using once you start employment. If they don't offer PTO time immediately, most employers do not penalize employees who need the time.

When I've had things planned, I mentioned it if I was asked about my availability in an interview, and then after I was hired, I filled out a request for the days I needed off and turned it into the scheduler.

I have never needed a whole week off, but I haven't had problems.
