I've seen a lot of discussion regarding certification in one state then moving to another. I am from California but currently reside in Tennessee. I'd like to study nursing then find a job back in California however, CA is note a recipricating state(of course). I'm not fully aware of how becoming registered works exactly but is it like a lawyer you complete your academic study then take the NCLEX-RN like the Bar and that gets you certified to work? If so is it possible to study in one state(TN) then schedule and take the NCLEX-RN in the state you wished to get licensed? Or do I have to have transcripts from CA to schedule the test in CA?

Actually the state you test in is not connected to the state you are applying for licensure in. Meaning you can apply for CA licensure but take the NCLEX in TN. Check with your state board of nursing to be sure, but that is my understanding of it.
As long as your nursing program meets CA's requirements, you should be fine.
An alternative is to apply for licensyre in your home state, then apply for endorsement to another state, but that involves more money and hassle.
Thank you that would be great I'll query the school about it.
