Taking long to find an assignment

HI Everyone,

I am an ICU nurse who wants to pursue travel nursing next month. I have been doing a 6month contract at a local hospital here in ICU and don't want to go staff there. Nor do I want to go staff in my area because I want to travel next month. I am licensed in Fla and my licensure for Hawaii has been processed but I haven't received it yet.

I am talking to 4 companies and I want to go to Maryland, DC, NC, ME, or Conneticut. I STILL haven't received an interview or anything.:imbar

The recruiters keep telling me that it is too soon for them to know about mid July because the hospitals posts there needs at different times and that nothing that I am interested in is posting for mid JUly.:sniff:

Is it this true?? Does it take very short notice to get an assignment?? I am new to the traveling game so I am unsure. I have been an RN for 8 yrs but never traveled.

My current contract ends at the end of the month. I want at least 2-3 weeks off completely to relax and then start working again. But I would like to have something set up.

How long does it typically take--this process of finding an assignement??

I know that due to the economy things have slowed down, but DANG!! I want to try traveling to see if I like the diffrent cities and states and maybe move out of Fla. Fla is a nice state but I have been here too long and ready to meet new people and have new experiences.

I also would appreceiate any advice about travel nurse as well.

Let me know your thoughts guys!! Thanks
