take exams or wait for petition?

Published

hi everyone! im a nursing student who will graduate in 2 years time. I'm from the philippines and my husband is a legal permanent resident in the US.

i just have 2 inquiries which i need advice on.

first, if my husband's family based petition for me is approved and I become a green card holder, do I still need to take the CG certification program before I can work in the US as a RN (assuming that I already passed the NCLEX)

second, which one do you think will be faster: applying for an employment based visa through an agency or just waiting til I get my husband's petition approved so I can already work in the US?

The only exam that you need to take is NCLEX. You do not need CGFNS exam.

The process for immigration can be started for you now as a wife of a permanent resident. There is nothing that you can do as far as immigration on your own until you actually pass the NCLEX exam, and then you would also be required to pass the English exams, as well as get a Visa Screen Certificate.

Suzanne,

just a quick question:

Why does she need a Visa Screen Certifcate when she can get a GC through her husband?

Or did I understand somehow wrong?

She was asking what was faster for her to do. Her hsuband is already in the US and has a green card, so different rulings come into place, if she was not petitioned when he was.

She can wait for that, or if she takes the English exam, and goes thru Visa Screen, it could be done sooner, however, her issue is that she is still a student, so nothing can be done with her going thru her own process until after she finishes.

This is not the normal case.
