Hi! Can anyone give me information about how to become a nurse in California? I am an RN in Taiwan with five years ER experience.
I want to move to California and work for a hospital there. Can someone please tell me what I need to do and what requirements I need to meet in order to work there? Do I have to go through a recuritment agency or can I try to apply by myself?
Has anyone out there gone through the process as a foreign nurse and can tell me about their experience?
Thank you for your help!

Lilian--you usually have to take a test issued by the CGFNS that tests your nursing knowledge, and English proficiency test, and they evaluate your nursing school curriculum by comparing it to required American nursing education. Once you pass all of this, then you have to take the NCLEX-RN to get a license to practice in the state you want, in your case, California.
The CGFNS stands for Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools. They have a website, cgfns.com or .org, not sure, just do a search and it will come up. They also have contact information so you can get the ball rolling.
If you are looking for a job in California, please send me a private message, perhaps I can help you.

I lived in Taiwan twice when a child when my dad was in the service. Can I ask what part of Taiwan you live?
