Tacoma Community College Nursing Program Class of 2010

U.S.A. Washington

Published

Hi everyone who got in with me for the fall 2008 quarter. I thought it would be cool if we had our own thread to post our questions and concerns. I for one am very excited for orientation. I don't want to wait a whole month! I'm sure it will fly by so fast!

lets introduce ourselves,

I'm Amanda!:nurse:

I just bought the books, and they are expensive! The good thing is that I was told they will be used throughout the program and that the first quarter is the most expensive. I am so excited as time draws near!

hey, i didn't get the last email they sent out about a bag lunch etc. Can you forward it to me please? I'm not sure why it didn't come through, I have recieved everything else. I have a feeling it went to my bulk and was deleted. THANKS!!:redpinkhe

Amanda,

I just forwarded the message to you.

Thank you! It didn't say much, but I still wanted my own copy! I can't wait for friday. I still have a lot of things that I need to finish before school. I am taking a week off of work to try and complete it all. It's insane that it is finally happening! GO US!:nurse:

Hi All!! Hey Jenn thanks for the info on this place!

Well I am starting the Winter of 09 classes at TCC, so I am going to be ready your posts often!

I wish you both the best!

Amanda, did you take multicultural speech in spring of 07 with Zediker? just curious!

:heartbeat:yeah::jester:

Naw, I took it with Ramos in the spring of 08. Good luck in winter! It will be here so fast. 4 days until orientation, I am getting nervous!

Hey everyone! One of my friends let me know to turn in my nursing acceptance letter to financial aid because they did not have hers on file. I took it in today, and of course they did not have mine on file either. I am not sure if this affects the amount of aid we receive or not, but I thought it was a good idea just in case. :)

Hey guys :) Can you please, please, please post every single detail from orientation for all of us Winter folks. I'm curious (nosy is more like it), but also anxious. Tell us absolutely everything you can think of, pretty please. I especially want to know about scrubs and shoes so I can go ahead and get mine before Christmas. I'd like to know your schedule, even though mine will be different, and how they chose it. I'm super nervous about the whole daycare issue. I'm guessing winter orientation will be during Christmas break, and I'm hoping daycares will be open so I can sign the boys up. I could go on and on about all of the info I want to know, but it would be so wonderful if some of you can tell us what you learn at orientation. Thanks!

Scrubs any brand navy blue with a white shirt worn underneith. Shoes any white shoes, no crocks. Books= very expensive first quarter, use throught program. Clinicals at ltc and community locations. Research paper in LS throught the first 4-5 quarters. Total of 5 classes, including the clinical, but only 14 credits. :nurse:

WInter quarter goes through the last summer quarter so that you can graduate early.

Very friendly, very helpful. Cool teachers and it looks like a very packed busy schedule. Classes are all over the place. Clinicals are all during the day it seems.

This should be my last post under this screen name as most of you know who I am and I would like more anonymity for HIPPA reasons.

Best of luck to you all!

I guess I should change my screen name too! :roll

Seriously, Orientation was a bunch of information to absorb, but it is extremely exciting. The best part was talking to the reps from SNO (Student Nurse Organization). They have a plethera of information and it is nice to be able to talk to current students that have gone through what we are about to embark in. What I also found interesting is that each new student is assigned a mentor for guidance throughout this new experience. I also like the fact that everyone involved from staff to students are so supportive and want everyone to succeed. It is nice, after all of the riggorous competition, that now we can back off the competitiveness and think of it as a major support system in our nursing journey!!!

:stdnrsrck:

I have a question for anyone that just started this fall(or any current TCC nursing students). Based on what I saw in the fall schedle it looks like you have 2 open days. Did folks this fall really have any open days? The reason I am asking is that I am finishing up my Surgical Tech program and I am considering working part-time as a Surg Tech to keep my skills current while working on my RN. Any thoughts on the feasability of this from those that are in the program?

Welcome to you all and good luck! I'm not in your class (Q4 student, graduating in the spring) but I was perusing the site and saw the sticky.

I'm sure nobody has time to read this anymore, it's so busy that first quarter! Good luck and if any of you need any advice on anything, please don't hesitate!

Maybe I'll see ya'll at the Snocial on Wednesday!
