Hi... I was just accepted into the TCC Nursing Program. Does anyone out there have any advice or information to offer? I'd appreciate hearing about the program, instructors, clinicals, etc. Thanks! Oh, one more thing... if you are aware of any specific information that would be beneficial to review prior to starting, please let me know.

Hi I'monmyway !

Good luck with your orientation coming up, I know you've got to be really exited and nervous. The thing I'm most interested in is the actual day to day sceduale for classes. Right now my kids are going to be in half dat school, but by next year they will half to be in a full day program due to class hours. When I went to the last info session, they were a little vague saying it varies and changes every quarter. Oh well, I guess that's why they say you need to be flexible and have a large support system in place especially if you've got kids. Right now, I'll live vicariously through you nursing students! Thanks for posting back!

From what I understand about this first quarter, you go to classes M,T & possibly Wed (depending upon which group you are in: A, B, or C). Then you have clinicals at another time (probably based on availability). If you check out the current TCC class schedule you will see that the 11X classes are from early a.m. to early afternoon.

Hi Irene Joy & I'monmyway,

Irene Joy welcome and I hope you enjoy your cna class. I took one last summer and it was an eye opener and it gave me a good idea on what nursing is like. I took it to make sure that nursing was what I wanted and I learned alot!

I'monmyway - I just checked the site for the class schedules and they changed them. The nurs111 class is now 11am -1.20pm and the others are now on thur & fridays. I liked the old schedule, with earlier starts and having a long weekend, better. But, I am not complaining I just feel so blessed just having a seat in the class. Hope to meet you on Sept. 12

Wow... thanks for the heads up on the schedule change. By the way, my name is Lynn. I suppose a semi-formal introduction is appropriate, especially since we'll be spending the next two years together!

Fall of 07 students~ How is everything moving along? We have'nt heard how you are all doing. For those of us waiting in the wings for next years class, please tell us what you think so far. Is the reading managable, are the tests hard, are the clincals going well and are you guys able to work while keeping up with school? I am going to be starting my cna job soon and hope to work while in school. I really don't know if it's possible. Is nursing school anything like you thought it would be? Thanks for all your input, have a great day!

Hi Irene Joy -

I'm also a full time student in my second quarter of the TCC nursing program. I can't speak for the other two, but I would guess that no one answered your last post because first quarter is insane. To answer your questions - No, the reading is not manageable, so you learn very quickly to focus on what is most relevant and skim or skip the rest altogether. Yes, the tests are very hard, but you can succeed if you study hard and don't miss lectures. The clinicals first quarter are all over Tacoma, at various places and various times. That is probably the craziest part about first quarter. I can't speak much to 2nd quarter yet, but at least it will be more consistent. I tried to work last quarter and had to give up, but other people have done it, I guess it depends what other responsibilities you're carrying. I have three kids at three different schools which throws a wrench into most things. CNA experience will be helpful. Good luck to you, I hope your pre-reqs are going well!

Hi!

I was just accepted to TCC's Nursing program and am starting this Spring quarter. I was wondering if there is anyone else out there in allnurses.com land that will be starting with me? :nurse:

Congrats! Hopefully I will be joining you in the fall. If I can just nail these anatomy classes!!! Enjoy and keep me posted on what it's like, I am pretty much obsessed with becomming a nurse :):yeah:

I thought I would bump up this thread and keep it going. I'm soo exited to be accepted into the spring class at tcc. I just got my acceptance e-mail on Feb 11.Is any one else out there going to be with me? I originally was planning on getting into the fall class, but on a whim decided to put down spring also on my application. I was soo suprised that I got a response. Now I'm so nervous about the sceduale and how I am going to juggle work and school and my children. I am hoping to find out soon when the orientation is and all that fun stuff!

Hi!

I will be there with you! After spending the last two and a half years doing my pre-reqs I can't believe that it is really happening.I am so excited and nervous...I hope that they will send out the orientation information soon. :yeah:Congratulations!

I just recently got my acceptance letter (email) also! This should be fun!

It's so weird. Now that i've got the acceptance letter,I'll be paranoid until I hear about the orientation and get started. It almost feels like it's not real until the classes are paid for and you see your name on the list ya know? Anyways, I'm checking my e-mail every day hoping for more news to come our way!
