Switching to a Nursing Major

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi all. This is my first time posting and I hope to get replies. I'm on the verge of a break down and would love HONEST answers.

I'm a sophomore in college. I was on the track to actually be able to graduate in 3ish years with a degree in Biology. However, when I did more digging and talked to people in the science fields, it's looking like the job opportunities are dwindling and the pay is not worth the time and energy I'll put into a degree. Someone suggested Nursing. The more I think about it and read the requirements of my university (in terms of classes) to get a BSN, the more excited I become. I don't dread the line of work I'd be doing like I was in Biology (I wanted to do research) and the fact that I'll be more hands on than a doctor (which is why I didn't apply pre-med) makes me excited.

However, last year, I received 2 Cs in my only science classes (Chem I and II) and failed a Calc class. I will be retaking it in hopes of receiving no lower than a B. My university replaces the grade of the first retake of a class but after that, a trail of grades is left. Idk if nursing school will still see that I received a D initially or not though. I'm currently enrolled in Organic Chemistry and failed the first 2 quizzes. I'm debating dropping it and taking the class this summer and next fall to avoid worsening my GPA.

My question is this: Is there any point to even try and get into Nursing with my record? I see a lot of people say they have good GPAs so I feel as though I'm screwed and would be better off becoming a corporate drone...Any help is appreciated.

You can always fix your grade by retaking it but I have yet to apply to nursing school so IDK what they see when they look at ur grades. I would withdraw from a class before receiving an F though.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Organic Chemistry isn't "technically" needed. It's an alternative for those who might have taken it. Anatomy and Physiology I and II are moreso needed.

ya i know the ASN program only requires the lowest chemistry to get into the program but to get a BSN its probably different
