Switching from floor to ER peds?

Hi there - I am looking into switching from the pediatric floor nursing position I have been working for over 3 years now (since I graduated from nursing school) to a pediatric ER position. The unit I currently work on is very small (8 beds) and usually has more adult overflow than pediatric patients. I know that it would be a major change to go from this environment into an ER environment, so I was looking for some advice and insight from anyone who has been there/done that or who has worked in pediatric ER before.

The positions I'm looking at are for level II trauma centers.

Thank you for your insight!

I worked inpatient peds to now a 20 bed peds ED. We are on the campus of a level 1 trauma center. So currently all our peds level I and II go to the trauma center, unless they walk in our front door.

My personality fits the ED, I am so happy I made the change, love the pace of it.

I like the variety that I see. When I worked inpatient the floors were divided by age and specialty and now I see a lot of everything.

So things I do like to see is not every kid is super sick. A lot of ear aches and runny noses....down side you see the worst of it too the NATs and SA
