I have been on a cardiac stepdown unit for almost 6 months now. This is my first job out of nursing school. I feel that my passion is in OB and in school had a love for that class. I'm wanting to switch over to OB. Eventually become a women's health NP or something similar. I'm wanting to get opinions on if I should try and make the switch soon or stay at my current position for at least 1 year. Also, if I decide to try and switch now how likely do you think I would get hired for an OB position being a new nurse with 6 months of cardiac experience. I enjoy nursing, but just know that where I'm at right now is not what I'm meant to do. All opinions would be appreciated.

I would just apply now and see what happens if there is an open position. You can always call and talk to their nurse manager and see what they prefer for experience-i.e. wait the full year, or apply now.
good luck
