Survivng Drexel ACE - advice pls!

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Okay, somewhat new topic! (not that there aren't enough already). I guess I'm looking for somewhat specific advice (if possible). I hear the administration and some professors can be less than desired. So, I'm curious what people have done (or would suggest) to succeed in the program. Specific(ish) questions (If you'd rather, send me a PM, and I could at your discression, post it here):

What classes/professors require you to be super textbook oriented (like, test questions often from the book, but not discussed in class)?

What classes/professors seem more notes oriented (text just in case you're really curious).

What is the level of homework in general. I understand there are care plans, but what other stuff is there? Papers? Regular questions?

What books did you feel were really not worth buyin (never opened them)? Which ones were the most used?

Which professors/classes were the killers (that you wish you had started studying sooner), and which were easier than expected?

How are the classes organized? Does one professor teach all of the instances of a given class, or are there multiple professors for each subject?

What is the classmates comraderie like? Do you guys feel closer or like enemies in the end? Is there a pinning ceremony?

For those that found it to be not the hardest in the world, how did you find a 'groove'. For those that felt it was constantly an uphill struggle, what worked in the end?

Thanks a million! (No, I'm not stressing out immensely, 8.5 weeks and counting!!!!!)

new1nurse, good luck this week! i'm sure we'll all be fine (at least, that's what i keep telling myself). did you go to any of the reviews today or did you skip everything?

Hi August,

Settling down now to cram for Pharm. I skipped every thing.

Sometimes you have to skip everything for the "Womens" in your life. lol

Anyway, the final was straightforward and I think I did pretty well. As for the Hessi, well

that's a toss up. It almost seems like the profs are balancing bad Hessi scores with good final grades. I dunno'

Bye the way, what in the world is a "placenta souffle"? Sounds like street food in Thailand!

Good luck tomorrow?

LOL I know, who makes these terms up?? It has something to do with the pulsation of the placenta, a wooshing noise, and matching the mom's pulse rate.

At least grades are posted and we can breathe a little before tomorrow's exam. Just finished studying pharm, I think it will be okay. Good luck to you too!

Guess what August!

I got a lousy 81 on the final (I thought it was easy, guess I didn't know my contraceptives and STIs as well as I thought. Arghhhhh!) but.....

I got a 94 on the HESI, even with my mistake of not rounding 92.5ml to 93ml!

I must have the wildest swings in grades in history - argggggh! Well, I'm not kicked out of the program yet, as I passed women's. yeaaaaahhh! I guess the stay at home, miss class to study method sort-of-works??

Congrats! It's a relief, isn't it? I think a lot of people did better on the HESI than on the final (which is how I felt when I walked out of there). I got consistent 80-somethings in women's all quarter, then 100 on the HESI. Too bad they wouldn't let me take that as the 30% of my grade!

Ha. lol. who r you u over achiever!!!! Kate? i bombed the pharm final but i passed the class. wheeew.

Yup, it's me. lol. I got an A on the pharm final but missed an A in the class by a tenth of a point. I would say that I'm not an over achiever, but the temper tantrum I threw over the tenth of a point says otherwise haha. I probably could have put some of those nice psych drugs to good use.

Only 2 days left!

Hi august,

lol. u funny. u seem to be rockin for an english major. lol. anyway, wish me luck. I have to ask u about strategy for next quarter assuming i make it through this last test. I seem to always get behind and then never get to catch up.

well, gotta pull my all nighter for tomorrow.

-new1nursebabyea!

I'm trying really hard to avoid an all nighter tonight...we were so exhausted after the final this morning that we drove back to nj to take a nap before the hesi (hesi grades are up, btw). Thought I failed but I got an A, so that was a nice surprise.

Good luck studying, you'll be fine tomorrow! Let me know if you need anything, I'll be doing Adult for the next few hours.

Hi August!

I done got me an A too, whooooopeeeee!!!! ha. I luv me some corporate education HESI tests!

Now if I can just pass. I think I'll do as many HESI q's between finals tomorrow as I've been up since 5 and didn't get a nap.

lol.
