Survey: Neonatal procedural pain practices

Published

what do you think about the procedural pain management in your nicu? how does it compare with other units? please follow the link below to a national procedural pain practices survey. your answers will help us understand how we are doing on a national level with this critically important issue.

as a neonatal nurse your participation in an important pain survey is being requested. this survey is based on a pain survey developed by patricia j. byrd, rn, msn that was reported in [color=#221e1f]"exploring barriers to optimal pain management in neonatal intensive care units", advances in neonatal care, [color=#00008b]december 2009 -volume 9 - issue 6. the survey has been modified to include information on elective intubation practices in addition to other commonly performed minor procedures in the nicu.

this modified survey is being conducted by a nurse scientist who is also a neonatal nurse practitioner and is expected to provide a rich data base of procedural pain practices in our nicus from a national perspective.

This was a survey asking me if I read journals. :\

Dawn,

The survey contains two questions about journal reading practices - the answer to those 2 questions will help us determine if practices differ significantly from what the literature reports. There are 57 questions in all, some of which are demographic info, but the bulk of them address how nurses feel about nicu pain, what you have available in your units, and what you personally prefer to use. Thank you for your response!

Hi Dawn!

My apologies to you and any others who attempted to access the survey - only the very beginning of the survey actually shows up! I am in transit home and will try to correct this evening. I will post a note once the site is fixed. Thank you again for your response!
