Nurses General Nursing

Published

I got to work last night and had to face the monster....

We had 19 patients...for third shift...3 RNs. 1 CNA for the entire shift; and one CNA until 3am.

One RN had done the assignment...(gets to work at 7pm)...she kept her module, the other RN kept hers, and I was to take the WORST MODULE (SURPRISE SURPRISE), and they had the 2 CNAs splitting the floor until 3am-------- AFTER WHICH THEY EXPECTED ONE CNA TO HAVE TO ENTIRE FLOOR BY HERSELF.........

The purpose of this was to keep them from having the MODULE FROM HELL I'd been enjoying.........

.....I started to "go along quietly......"

.......then thought.............naaahhhhhh.

I conferred with the House Supervisor, and he agreed that one CNA should not have the entire floor after 3am.

So I told them I was ~ gasp~ changing the assignment and OH MY GAWD..................

they threw the damnedest FIT you've ever seen......screaming, fussing.........................................................................................

you would not believe it.....they were oh so willing to give ME the module from hell but oh shyt...........for some STRANGE REASON, they didn't want it...

They thought it was positively awful that they split the floor but they didn't think anything about one CNA having the entire FREAKING floor to herself after 3am!

Anyway, we proceeded....

I got cussed.....this so-called nurse bytched and griped ALL NIGHT LONNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG.........

my Gawd, it was a long nite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I clocked out as charge.

I found out later that for enduring this abuse I earned the extra sum of a princely 50 cents per hour - wow!

(I'm not even a Clinical Leader, but at times like THIS, I wish I was!!!!! At least I would've had some authority...)

While they were throwing their screaming Mimi fit, I told them to call the House Supervisor....strange, but neither one did.......they didn't have anything to say to him but they had plenty to say on the floor....................to me.

Sounds truly awful.

Congratulations (seriously) for standing up for yourself though. I have no words of advice or anything but I just sympathize with having co-workers that are completely unreasonable. The fact that they wouldn't even call the House Supervisor says it all.

Thanks but it was really the CNA I was trying to stand up for....

..they were perfectly willing to screw her over, of course.

I feel like I didn't stand up for myself too well but I was just trying to keep the peace and this one RN was completely out of control.
