Surgeon's Sign

Published

Hi. Does anyone know of a website that shows an illustration of the surgeon's sign? I really need it for my OR experience this semester. Thanks.

Which surgeon's sign are you referring to?

What I meant by surgeons signs were those signs thatsurgeons make for example when they ask for a scissors, scalpel, etc. I need an illustration on that. If anyone knows about this, please share. Thanks,

Our surgeons use them for scissors (a fore- and middle- finger snipping motion), forceps (a thumb and forefinger pinching motion) and suture (a fist twisted in front of them- hand formed like the ASL sign for A moved like the sign for 10) I think that's about all the signs they use, and not all do it. It may vary from hospital to hospital in the US, maybe more common in the Phillipines? Maybe try the OR nurses forum, a few nurses from the Phillipines post there, too.

more off topic, but, I've been trying for years to get the scrub techs and circulators I work for to pick up on the ASL signs for more, need, hot, cold, etc but no one's falling for it yet!
