If you sign up with an NP preceptor service. If you're active in healthcare social media (LinkedIn for instance), they aggressively pursue preceptors for desperate NP students. I am not familiar with the fee schedule and what percentage goes to the company and what percentage goes to the preceptor. I do precept AGACNP students as an employee of a university medical center and don't get paid (but avail of perks for clinical ladder advancement and ANCC renewal). In principle, I would never sign up to those companies that seem predatory and take advantage of students enrolled in schools who should be securing clinical placements for their students.
Ditto Corey Narry. In general, the students that pay for preceptors through services go to crappy schools. As an MD, is this how you want to spend your time?
NP students going to reputable schools do not pay for MD preceptors. That is because their schools find placements for them. Or the schools have good alumni networks and alumni will help out students. For example, I went to Johns Hopkins and am happy to precept Hopkins students without payment.
The brutal truth is that in general, students that go to subpar schools are subpar. I also recruit for our practice, and 90% of the time good candidates go to decent schools. The poor candidates almost always went to crappy for-profit schools.

Is it true psychiatrists can get paid for having NP students? Anyone have any tips on where I can find that info?
