Not quite as hot today, but we still have humidity (ugh); lots of cloudiness, but supposedly there will be no rain. Hmm. We'll see.
Was awakened at 8 AM by my phone ringing. It was a neighbor who asked me if I had any brake fluid. Uh, at 8 AM on a Sunday? No I don't have any brake fluid, and I can't go to get some for you because I am not up and awake yet. Besides which Nannie can no longer be trusted to be by herself. When I got up at 11:30 and let Tinker drag me around the yard twice on my not awake legs, I saw his truck with the hood up. Hope he gets someone to take him to get the brake fluid, or brings some to him. It can't be my problem, though I would help if I could; but I can't, so I won't! And can I hear an "AMEN!" for that?
BiL came over to drop off my check for the month, for 'caregiving'. It's Nannie's money, not the iL's, so I don't know if her budget would be able to pay me at least $100 more per month. I don't think it is asking too much, but I don't know her financial status anymore. But she also pays for the cable and WiFi, which is nice.
Nannie is now very carefully folding the hems of her 2 jerseys together in her own particular way, and then she rolls her hands into the folded part so they are covered and not visible. No her hands are not cold, she just likes to wrap them up. She will fiddle with the jersey hems and her sleeves over and over again, ALL DAY LONG, unless she falls asleep. I can't watch because it makes me feel 😳 insane. Because she has dementia there is no rhyme or reason for her activities while sitting in the recliner, so, as the saying goes: 🤔 "WHY ASK WHY?"
I DID get the crock pot started, at least. I put the broth, onions, carrots, celery in the crock pot on high, then I covered the pork loin roll with flour and sauteed the roll in a large frying pan with canola oil., and then placed that in the crock pot. I think it gives a better flavor to the meat when that is done first. Putting the meat(s) in raw makes it lose some of it's savoriness, or something.
When I came down into the kitchen, MUCH to my horror and surprise, the counters were teeming with those dern little ants. I don't know why. I killed off a swath of them, but I still have to go up and take everything off the counters, wash them down (erasing the scent-path the ants follow), and then spray them with some ZEVO. Ants do croak on contact with the ZEVO, but it isn't a long-lasting ant killer. I could go outside and spray with some SERIOUS ant killer, around the base of the wall and around at least the outside woodwork of the bottom of the window (can't reach any higher than that without a ladder) In fact, I think I will go out and spray where I can, when I am through yakking here. But I will not be dragging an extension ladder around; if I were younger and stronger I could do that with no problem. I PROLLY could do it now, but I just don't want to further stress my knees and elbows. Preventative non-action is a reasonable thing at this point in my life.
So, how is the North + Western portion (the areas where the earthquake was felt) of this country doing post shake-up? I think I read some aftershocks were felt, but I have not perused any of the news feeds very closely yet, so I don't know if and/or where they have occurred and if they have rated them with a number. I also did read about the volcano (in NE Japan?) that got active, spewing smoke and ash for the first time in 500 years. Huh! What a world, what a world.
Soooooo, I am through here for now, and will go get the RAID Ant Spray, and spray outside where the ants might be gaining access.
Hope everyone is having a weekend that is progressing satisfactorily-----
Found out a little earlier (from BiL) that Nannie's father ("Gangy", [hard G's] so named by hubby before he could speak clearly.) had a small, blonde chihuahua named "Tinker"! What a bunch of surprising coincidental things happen around this "new" dog of mine ! THAT Tinker hated him since BiL was quite little. BiL said that the minute he walked through Gangy's front door, that Tinker started growling and sometimes baring his teeth. BiL said he never did anything to that Tinker to get those reactions. But MY Tinker just jumped up in his lap and licked his chin, so that's a good thing!
So far, my two posts today haven't been screened (remain in pink, with words to the effect that it would have to be read by a monitor (?) first). Anyway, I will continue on here because I have something to tell yez guyz-----
Nannie is insisting that a man came out of the woods and picked up MEAT from in front of the log, and he went back down into the woods. I have gotten up three times to see what she is talking about.....now supposedly the man is gone, but the meat is still in front of the log. There was no man, there is NO LOG where she is pointing to, and certainly NO MEAT!! Something too about a white piece of something, and the man's head? I wish SiL could spend a day like this with Nannie, and then she'd get to experience that it is NOT "all good" like she always says.
She also scooted out of her chair with the foot-rest still up (I had gone upstairs for 2 minutes) and was standing there tucking in her jerseys all the way around. She never wears her clothes that way....or at least she hasn't done that in the 9 years I've been living here. But for some reason it is very important that she did so now., and she has been making sure over and over that it is "just right". I personally think it is so the shirt hems will get wet from her urine (because she did tuck it under her pull-ups) and I will have to launder them again. No, I don't really think she did that for that reason, but it will happen, mark my words. Things with her just keep getting weirder and stranger.
No Stars:
Ants HATE Bay Leaves -- place them outside area suspect entering and then on counters --- gone. Very effective when I place outside back door near kitchen.
WELCOME Tinker to the AN family!
I use this harness for my dogs --keep it on all the time instead collar so I can grabem when needed. Have new small size I could send you along with treats --double order arrived from Amazon --more than 6 months worth, so sharing them.
See he's giving you lots of kisses and emotional support that only a pet can provide.
HUGS to you.
Karen, I tried bay leaves on the larger wood ants and they had a fit because their way into the house was stuffed with bay leaves. When we got the roof redone, the nest of those ants was discovered, and they were eliminated. These little ants hang around on the counter and sink. I will sprinkle the bay leaves around on the counter before I go up to bed. I didn't get go out and spray with Raid because ..... the rain we weren't supposed to get today decided to make a vigorous visit!
That harness doesn't go on with a plastic thingy to secure it around the shoulder blades? This one I use now doesn't go around the neck at all; you put the dog's legs into the arm holes, and close it at the shoulder-blades with the click-plastic 'lock'. At least the one on this particular harness is a lot easier for me to squeeze to unlock it. I remember when my hands were strong, but apparently the tendonitis I thought I had in both wrists was carpel tunnel, and now the base of my thumbs are muscle-less,and my index fingers don't think they should have to carry the load by themselves if the thumbs don't squeeze along with them. So I am happier with this harness than any of the other ones I tried on her. Is the harness pictured a slip on? I guess I could click on the link and find out, huh?!
Nannie asked if she could go to bed at 8:45 PM and I about fainted when she did! But I said "SURE! You can go to bed if you want to!" She said she did want to because she was feeling pretty tired. WOW!
I have to get up early and get her dressed and fed, and then BiL will be here to convey her to daycare. SiL isn't coming back from Oak Island until late afternoon, so I will also be picking Nannie up from daycare.
Did I mention that the HFS (Earth Fare) I go to is closing? Permanently! And the only other one is in Fort Mill, South Carolina. I have no idea yet where in SC that Fort Mill is, and is it a LONG drive there? Because I was kind of spoiled by not having to eat all my meals like I fix for Nannie, and I always picked up a bunch of interesting foods at the HFS. I can't believe this area is bereft of HFS's. BUMMER! Probably there is something in Charlotte but I hate having to drive in Charlotte because the layout of the roads is worse than the roads in Boston, which is where all the roads started out as cow-paths! No kidding! Also, every night the local news from Charlotte is filled with crimes like stabbing and shootings, robberies, pedestrian accidents, and car accidents at 'unsafe' intersections; they told of FIVE of those intersections in Charlotte. Anyway, I would rather not have to drive over there for ANY reason. Not having to go anywhere for work, I am not on the roads all the time and finding my way to people's houses for private duty. That was why I could find my way around all the other places I lived. Here, the roads that you THINK should lead to another road....DON'T! You end up driving in the surrounding VERY rural areas. I have gotten lost here more than at any other time in my life, ANYWHERE! And the stupid Google maps just show lines without road names. I can read AAA maps, but the Google maps are a mystery to me.
Tinker and I are about to make a quick trip outside in case she has to pee, and then we head up to our room. We play a little with her blue, fuzzy squeak toy (a long but small dog) then she gets a few treats as her bedtime snack, and when she realizes the snacking is over and she can't locate any crumbs, she curls up on a folded soft blanket to sleep.
Note to myself: Don't forget to dose the kitchen counters with bay leaves!
Voyager Dog Harness is a step in type, plastic buckle latch easy to open close with my arthritis too. Can check pics on Amazon where I purchase. I leave harness on all the time so can grab them when tusseling together, trying to leave front door too. Moses doxie will just run out the door between my legs, across the street or around corner if he's not been on recent walk or car ride. How much does Tinker weigh?
Kinda looks like the one I use on Tinker now, but with a little more cloth to it. But I don't like to leave it on when she is in the house because it interferes with my scratching her neck, shoulders and chest. Don't like collars for the same reason. Never liked collars on a cat either, even though I don't have one now, so that's a moot point. But I'm good with the harness Tinker and I are using now. I appreciate your thoughts, though.
The toughest thing is going out first thing in the morning before my meds have kicked in, my legs groan "AaaUuuuugghhhh." which is because of a low-grade aching in my lateral hips and down the front of my thighs to my knees. Sometimes it takes two times around the property before she is interested in any 'eliminations," and I am saying "Tinker, come on, be a good girl and pee!" because I want to go back in for coffee and to sit on the sofa!
Takes me two hrs to get unkinked/stiffness resolved in AM. Neighbors had 2 different fences in backyard, so last year sprung to have cedar fence on other two sides: open back french doors, out they go AFTER checking on Fridays lawn guys closed gate. Doors screen door pushed thru by 1st foster doggie on bottom, so now considered a "doggie door corner", leave door cracked when less than 80, no hummdity. PA's been having your kind weather until last Friday. Thursday we got 4-7 inches rain in 4 hours; glad we live on top a hill.
Let me know if you want snacks sent your way: greenies toothbrush chews, salmon chews, Zukes mini's, dried chicken hearts, good n fun twists, Purina joint care chews etc
Dried Chicken hearts? Never have seen THEM! I dunno about the snacks, even though it is very generous of you to offer. I am being very careful not to overfeed or treat Tinker, since she is at a good weight, UNlike Momo's. We still have to go through the spaying process (and being chipped) soon. I suppose we could let you send some of those dried chicken hearts, though. I could send my address if we still have private mail on this site....I haven't used it very much in forever, which I wonder if it is still the same. Anyway.....let me know.....and Thanx!
Tinker moves and walks a lot more than Momo did; not only does Tink follow me every step I take (🎶"every move I make...."🎶) she runs up and down stairs multiple times every day and evening, for various reasons....to look out the front door, to locate her fuzzy, blue, squeaky-toy, or the larger, floppy monkey that is about as big as her. She likes those toys to be in the same room as her.

Dianah you were right, The Black Scorpion was on last night, Earth Girls Are Easy was the previous Sat
Stars glad she decided to stay in, especially with all of the rain
Hi Ado
NJ22 I also am careful not to over mix muffin batter
Did not go bird watching yesterday, and it was a nice break from the usual. Having more time on a Sat morning was nice. Took the time to stop at a local bakery before lunch with dad. Ran some more errands afterwards and exercised.
Today will be assisting minister at church and then will be at a short meeting afterwards to discuss planning for a music event in September. Going to meet up with some people from church who are fellow birdwatchers, going to play a bird based card game. Afterwards planning to do the cooking and exercise
Will be similar to yesterday, about 80 with no rain expected
