Hey folks,
So back in 2011 I got my certification as a CNA but never found employment. I kept my usual job and went to a nursing program where I completed my first year but did not pass my OB dosage calculation exam so I was dismissed.
I am going to be applying to Chamberlain College of Nursing and would like to get tech position. At at either North side or Choa at Scottish Rite Hospitals, which are literally right beside it. That being said, what is the BEST route for me to take to getting this position? Should I retest to renew, then apply? Or should I just wait until I am an official nursing student this summer to apply and explain I have already successfully completed a year of a nursing curriculum (most hospitals will consider that sufficient for a tech position).
Thanks!

If you don't feel like it's an inconvenience go ahead and apply for the position now. If you don't get offered the position, ask why and explain your goals. The employer should be able to fill you in on whether they overlooked you because of your expired CNA. Additionally, a lot of positions may be looking for someone to fill shifts that are not a good fit for Chamberlain's accelerated program. I work as a tech in an ER and I had to reduce my hours to ensure that my coursework didn't suffer. Everyone is different, but it will be difficult to work 8-12 hours shifts, complete coursework and tend to additional responsibilities.
The job being so close to school should work in your favor. I say anything is possible, but just stay informed so that you make the best decision for you.
Good Luck!
